Honestly most in here don't put enough miles on one to really know.
I can say our 07 has 36k trouble free miles and I wouldn't be afraid to travel anywhere on her.

When they ( the 96er's) first came out a lot of Evo's and 88 in-er's owners thought they where junk, but they've proven themselves to be a pretty good motor.
As any and most HD's U really need to do the STG1 and cams to wake them up.

Still there are a lot of Evo believers, and the 1st couple yrs of 88'' ers because of the lower bearings.

Still I haven't read any problem except the 88's do not the tensioners replaced around 25 to 40K, lots of guys seen to go with gear cams to eliminate the problem.

Honestly I wouldn't be afraid of most any post Evo HD, if its been taken care of. As there are a lot of really good used one to be had,

I am quite happy with my 09 but it does tend to run a bit warm here in the desert! I've added a Captain Itch crotch cooler to help keep the heat away and am currently working on the tune to help reduce the heat coming off the rear jug.

I've put 18,500 on my '09 so far and I LOVE it. Ridden from the east coast to Texas and back, from NC to NJ and NY, getting ready for a FL run in November. You just have to have the right setup and it's like riding a recliner. I've got the engine guard with the pads on top w/ highway pegs with stirrups and the HD signature series seat. Very Very comfy and plenty of power. I've actually been looking to upgrade to an Ultra but can't get any hits on selling my Heritage. Good luck on your venture.

I ride a 2011 Heritage, and have had zero problems so far. True, the newer models produce quite a bit of heat, but Stage I/II upgrades pretty much take care of that. I would invest in some type of saddlebag stiffener kit, as I don't care for the saggy bag look.

Might want to stay away from the 05. Not just the Heritage but as I understand it the first 6 months of all or maybe most 05 models Moco tried to save a dime on valve guides and tried to pass it off as valve seals. Either way some bikes mine included used alot of oil. Like a quart in 800-1000 miles. Got mine fixed and doesn't use any oil now but wish I had known of the potential problem in advance. Great time to buy a used bike. Buyers market and lots of garage queens out there. If you wait till riding season is over deals will only get better. Good Luck

Love my 04. It's a cruiser not a racer. I read on here all the time the problems people have with their scoots, I just figure its a machine, feed it, lube it and ride it. If it develops a problem I will use it as an excuse to upgrade it!

I have been riding one for 20 years (1991 FLSTC) and still love it. I've had RK's and others but always kept this one. This EVO has been trouble free and been all over the country.

I've had only minor issues with my '03, mostly due to lack of use but the previous owner. I would have preferred a six speed and a 96.
