+1. Do NOT use red loctite on riser bolts or anything you think you may have to loosen later. My rule of thumb is, if I can't put a torch to it (to loosen it later), I don't use red. Blue would be okay for riser bolts, tho.
Agreed!!!! Red is used for fastners that you do not ever plan on removing. Blue is for the ones that you do plan on someday removing. Heat is usually required to break red loctite loose.
Alright... I figured there is a point where too tight would damage the poly insulator by putting too much stress on it. Right now I just have them at 5-ft/lbs for test fitting. I'll snug them up some a little at a time to where I feel comfortable, and keep an eye on them for awhile after that.
The book says 30-40 ft pounds. But as everyone above, including me, says good and tight. Not red loctite if you want to ever take off.
I put plenty of red locktite on the bolts to my fender struts when I put on softail toolboxes. I was a little worried when I had to take the bolts out to move my turn signals this weekend (whole strut cover has to come off) but they came out easy as pie - didn't even have to use heat. Red locktite is not as tough as people usually say.

Agreed... There's been a change in something with loctite over the past whatever amount of years...
The additions of paste forms of it make saying red or blue a little different... Red liquid is the old definition of "it ain't coming off without heat" but that's changed... The blue paste is almost that tough now however the blue liquid seems to be nothing more than blue bolt frosting cuz it doesn't do much...
Red loctite paste... Now that's the stuff gets torch strikers sparking...
I stopped buying the liquid type all together now and strictly use the paste... In a jam with the choice of red or blue liquid for a non-internal engine job/maintenance part that gets frequent usage... id go for the red, my **** dries up tougher than the blue....
I think there's also a green or purple loctite that's a permanent thread locker... Sounds like a hack/fix it in a jam/aerospace fitting type thing... Haven't come across a job requiring it yet....
