Fuel Guage float question
Before anyone even asks, Yes I have the manual. I'm replacing my tank, 2005 Night Train w/FI, and the pump/float/regulator assembly has got to be the most aggrivating thing I have worked on in a while.
So after removing the assembly - swapping fittings in the tanks, I now am ready to re-install the assembly into the new tank. I look at the manual and I can't find the answer to the 1 question I have.
Which side of the fuel guage wire tube does the float sit on? The inside near the center of the tank, or the outside? I do not want to attempt the installation untill it is clear, as I do not want to bend anything (If I have'nt already[:@]).
Do you guys just replace the regulator clamp with a worm clamp? OK, so I guess thats more than 1 question.
Also after I removed the plate screws from the original tank, the plate kind of popped up as if it were sprung down. Should it sit in flush when I go to install it, or will I have to push it down to get it so it sits flush?
Thanks in advance.

just a word of caution remove the ground to the batter when doing this. i went into Harley for a stuck fuel gauge the tech pulled it out moved the float put it back and the bike never started again he fried the wires by grounding it only happens one in a thousand but if its your day to hit the lottery its big problems i got mine back twelve days later
For future work and something I have been doing. When working with wiring harnesses etc. Take a couple digital pics. If you get confused pop them up on a monitor for reference.

Your service tech must be some kind of moron! I can't imagine why he would pull the unit out of the tank without simply unhooking the deutsch connector from it first. There's no need to disconnect the battery.
