Default Softail Fuel Gauge

Are these hard to change. I have one coming from ebay. Not replacing the sending unit just the guage. The gauge on the Deluxe has a plastic glass and if the gets spun around it looks like hell due to scratches. I was just wondering if these were hard to install?

Thanks

It's pretty easy, just unplug the connecter, you may have to lift the tank to get at it. Remove the pins from the connector (easyer said than done), or simply "cut" them.[:'(]. Pull strait up on the guage and it's out.

Make sure to write down the order of the wires if you remove them from the connector.

A tip: if you tie a string around the wires before you pull them out, you can tie it around the new ones to pull them back through.

Removing the pins from the connector is the tough part, especially if you've never done it before. I use a small jewelers screwdriver and insert into the open end of the connector. The wire end is held in the connector by a little plastic tab so you just have to play with it until you get the wire free. As monkeyman said, you can always cut and resolder the wires if you can't figure out the connector.

Not difficult at all - just replaced mine a couple weeks ago with the HD flush set - I snipped the wires, prep, solder, heatshrink and tuck away took well less than an hour

What they said!! Once you get the pins out, its a piece of cake. I put in the LED gauge so I could see it better without having to lean up, squint, block the sun, etc.
