I have a 2008 Night Train at about 2000 miles I did a stage 1 upgrade. V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 with Screamin Eagle Heavy Breather, V&H Fuelpak. My wife and I rode it about 40 miles and she told me to pull over cause her leg was burning. The rear cylinder pipe is close to the oil tank and the heat from the pipe and oil tank measures 325 F shooting it with a laser therm. I never realized how hot it got till I stopped in traffic on a 100 deg day my leg next to the tank was cooking. The Mech at the dealer says its ok I don't think it is. I could cook a slab of ribs on my oil tank in a couple of hours. Anyone Else see Temps like this?

Yeah i have a fat boy lo with stock motor and exhaust and mine is the same. this is the down side of an air cooled engine. Only 25-30% of the fuel you burn is turned in to power the rest turns in to heat, and with out a cooling system the oil and surface area of the engine is used to dissipate and cool the engine. A couple things you might want to try are a oil cooler that mounts on the up tubes of the frame and a crotch cooler/air deflector which sits on the frame over part of the oil tank and cylinder head. If you exhaust is running that hot with heat shields you might want to look at your fuel pack and make sure you are not running lean which will cause a hotter exhaust and bluing of the pipes.
You may want to try one of our Crotch Coolers..They work very well and will help you out or your money back..They come plain or the wife can bling it out..

The H-D oil cooler is a good idea no matter what. Sounds like you should have the F/A ratio measured by a good shop with the right equipment. Once you get the ratio correct, the Captain's watchamacallilt should help reduce the radiated heat she's feeling. But, I wouldn't use it to mask what might be a real problem.
well, my oil temp will get up to 250* on a real hot day, so that temp doesn't surprise me. I've had days where the rear cylinder is cooking me, just the nature of the beast I think. As others said, an oil cooler would help the issue as well as checking the tune.
Ur got pipes that goes back further before going down than most pipes, I'd expect U to have more heat there with BRs 2-2's. More so if in a lot of stop and go traffic on hot days.
Get a dial gauge to actually take U OIL temp reading.
Our oil temp is usually between 210-220 riding, but can go 240 if stuck in traffic.
Thanks for the Advice.
Im not sure what the actual oil temp gets to yet but With the Black Exhuast pipes, Wrinkle Black oil tank, Black engine. The outside of the oil tank next to the exhuast is getting over 300 degrees and seriously cooking flesh. Third degree burns are not an option.
What would it take to convert FI over to carb???? Or should I just sell this bike and keep the cooler running 05 Dyna?
