I have a 99 Softail Custom with drag pipes and a K&N air cleaner. I increased the jets from the 42 pilot to a 45, and the main from a 175 to 180. I have a 5.2 gallon tank and average a little over 50 mpg. Most of my miles are hiway with some town riding thrown in. I don't even start to worry about getting gas til I get over 200 miles on her. And then it usually only takes 4 gallons to fill it. That EVO pulls hard from idle to 70 mph, and I rarely ride over that.
Over the last 3 months im getting 42.11mpg on my heritage tc88 rush slip ons screamin eagle air cleaner carbed with andrews 21n cams if i go on the interstate and keep it at 70 it will get high 40s if i go into the hills and curves two lane roads the best i have seen is 53.25mpg
2000 Softail Deuce with Dynojet kit, SE airfilter, & drags...33-35mpg in the city or ~ 175 miles per tank. I goose it every now and then, but for the most part, just keep up with traffic.
Figured I'd share my latest results...previously I was getting 33-35 mpg highway if I was careful. I went to Sturgis 2013 and had Dr Dyno do a full tuneup on my bike. He played with it for about 3 hrs...just dialing it in...now I get ~50-51mpg consistently (SD to Denver). And even better throttle response. He said whomever installed the dyno jet kit had it way too rich. He was suprised that I wasn't fouling the plugs.
Good to see what everyones been getting. I put together a 124 motor on my 2011 Fatboy last year and was concerned about making it to the next gas station here in the 49th State. Been getting around 40 with a best of 43. Mr Vance did good.
