I'm in 6th gear from around 60 mph and above.
I do too, 60-65 works fine on my Heritage.
If I'm just tooling along, me too. If I'm getting serious, well then its a "tad" higher than that.

The only thing that I have noticed that sometimes the bike will want to jump a little when I start it up.
Make sure you are in neutral when you start the bike.

As you know the 07 will not even crank when it gear. When I am in neutral and start the bike, sometimes it will jump like it is trying to engage the gear. Have a few more miles to get to my 1,000 then I will take it in for the service and tell them about it.

Maybe the lugging complaints about being in 6th gear, at 6o - 65 mph, is mainly a problem with the weight of two larger people and their gear on the bike.

A large amount of it is probably from guys like me who got earlier production models and were a bit inexperienced with bigger HOG's and got into 6th too soon. Or left it in that gear when they slowed down below 50/55mph.
I found out REAL fast that trying to roll on the power from too low an RPM was not a good idea when the first time I did it the engine felt like itwanted to shake itself out of the frame. Since I got the ECM update its actually runs a lot smoother if you make the same mistake of being too slow in any gear.
It lets you know about it, so you can downsift to something more appropriate, but it doesn't try leaping out of the frame on you any more.
If I had to guess I would have to say that at least part of the updateretarded thetiming in the lower PRM range. Probably only a couple of degrees, but that could be all it neededto make the engine a little more docile under heavy loadings.

Very possibly. I always make it a point to try and keep my engine speed above 2000 rpm and especially when beginning to accelerate so I haven't gotten any lugging.

My '07 Fat Boy does exactly the same thing except you can replace the word "sometimes" with "always." I've now made it a habit of always starting it with the tranny in neutral.

Since I know you have a tach, what rpm do you normally run at, with your 2007 Fat Boy?
When I'm holding a constant speed around town, on my 2005 Fat Boy SE,Ishift to a gear, so the engine is running at approx. 2300-2400 rpm. Would that be considered lugging on a 2007?
I select gears basically by sound. My pipes are pretty loud, if I cruised along in a lower gear, the higher rpmsound istoo intense.
I finally noticed you now have a photo album. Looks good.

Thanks, Tom. Next sunny day we get I'm going to try and get some better shots.

Regarding engine speed, that's about where I am the majority of the time, ~2200-2400 rpm and there's absolutely no lugging at those engine speeds.
