One week old 2012 Fat Boy with 300 mi. Rear brake caliper is dragging and not releasing all the way. Cannot drive it this way without burning up the pads and rotor. Anything I can check or do or trailer it 25 mi. to dealer? Thanks.
ill be honest i have no idea, but i remember a while back on a farm i used to work on an old truck we had the breaks were dragging and we just took a flathead screw driver and carfully pried it away. i have no idea if that would work at all or not but if you could get it out enough to get it to the dealer with out trailering it. but i would def. have them take a look at it for sure. sorry i couldnt help more.
Aren't they supposed to come pick it up? It's a new bike, just call them and tell them your rear brake is dragging and you don't think it is safe to ride the 25 miles to the shop. You should have gotten a free 1 year HOG membership with the new bike. That includes free trailering in case of trouble.
Side note, how hard is the rear brake dragging? The rear on my bike been dragging from new. Not enough to block the wheel, but enough the rear doesn't spin freely when on the lift. Supposed to be normal. Haven't burned rear rotor or pads.
I have 600 miles on mine, and the outer pad is doing the same thing. I was told by the dealer that it was normal and would wear in. I am getting some brake dust on the rear wheel, but the rotor does not seem to be getting damaged. If mine is still dragging at the 1000 mile service I will press the dealer to do something.
Almost all the new ones will drag the brakes for awhile. Kind of a scuffing noise as you come to a stop. The noise will soon go away if that's what you're worried about. If it's dragging enough to bring you to a stop then you've got bigger problems.
The bottom of the inner brake pad came out of the slot it rests in the caliper. Took the caliper off and put it back in place. I have no idea what caused it. I do not see how it could come out unless it was not right from the factory. Will try it and see if it happens again.
I just purchased my Fatboy Low yesterday and the disc brakes do drag, the pads should seat in with miles. Also disc brakes to drag by design it is part of the self cleaning to keep the rotor dry and clean. I can't wait for spring as I live in Michigan and my new toy will be going into storage.

Bizarre, you are the 2nd one in ą2 weeks with this particular problem! Someone screwed up royally with the pre-delivery check of your bike!
Just for the record, I'd give the dealer a "courtesy call" and tell them they screwed up. Could have gotten you into some serious trouble!
