Default Need advice on shopping for a used softtail

I've been in the market for a used Softtail for a few months now. I want a Night Train or Softtail Standard (as a second bike) and am about to pull the trigger on a 2004 Train with 30K on the odometer (9K asking price) with a lot of the mods that I want already done. Any issues with the 04's, and do you think the asking price is too high? I would love an 06, but cannot find an 06 Train for under 10K that doesn't have over 50K miles on it.

Check the cam chain tensioner shoes for wear. If they are worn past the shoes, kiss the engine goodbye when they finally go.
2007+ HD went with the hydraulic adjusted tensioners.

There's at least one good video on youtube showing how to check and what to look for if you're going to do the work yourself.
Sorry no link though.

$7000 would be a good deal. Sounds like you have your heart set on this one though. If $9000 is their asking price, you would think they would take 8k for it.

I think you should value the basic bike at 7k and add up how much those extras are worth to you. Although, I wouldn't pay over 8k for it. But that is just me and I'm a cheapass. Do whatever you feel is right. Those night trains are really cool bikes. GOOD LUCK!!!

Got any pics?
