Really like the Freedom Performance. They may have changed my mind on the true duals
Ya they are sharp and really like how they are tight coming out. In a few weeks when my tins are done I will make my decision...I am lil worried that the 4" may look to bloated and wont flow properly with the rest of the bike. My tins will really beef up the Lo and maybe the 4" will look sweet...will see.
At the shop yesterday as I was planning the tins, I asked the mechanic what duals would he recommend. He stated that most folks go for sound and looks when it comes to duals. I also asked what duals out there does a great job in optimizing HP/TQ. He again stated that most duals should give better torque since they are more restictive than my 2-2 V-H's...but with minor loss to HP. Which I assumed. Plus the HP loss won't be noticebale with my 255 cam set up since it's meant for low end torque.
After reviewing countless threads and vendors, again my head is spinning. Most appear to be par with each other...and to the eye the same for both 2 1/4 or 4" except for caps. Atm I am trying to decide what diameter to go with for both looks and performance. If Samson's 33" 2 1/4 adds to my existing performance, I might just go with that. The 4" just looks to bloated without bags after staring at countless pics on a fatboy....but if performance is better I may go that route. I could go with D&D Fatcat, but would have to always hide one side of the bike when bags are on:P
But the jury is still out on my choice...I got about a month to decide.
With that said I am very curious why folks chose their duals...brand, sound, looks, performance, etc...
Here is a most recent pic (last shop visit) of my Lo...to help imagine what duals to put on.
...also, even though it isn't related to the topic at hand, it's time to get rid of those reflectors on your lowers.
Hello OP. I went through similar conflicts when i got mine!
firstly I got my bike with Samson staggered. The issue was they were a bit too loud! I didnt mind it when i was riding, but when i was at idle id have to shut the bike to have a convo with someone
My next factor was that i really wanted dual fishtails. My research led me to 2 options; Samson or V&H
My research also led me to one supplier .. Dr. V-Twin from this forum. So i called him up, explained my situation and went back and forth a bit with my options.
Samson looked slightly better, may have even had a better sound. However i was not happy with it all being one piece with the baffle welded in place. If i chipped a tip id need an entire new pipe!
V&H had a slightly more "square" fit on the left side, but i figured after a while id never even look at it. V&H also offered flexibility! The tip, baffle, pipe, and header pipes all sold separate. It was however slightly more expensive.
Ultimately i Ordered the V&H because i really wanted the flexibility with the baffle and tips. It is EXACTLY what i wanted! It is very timid at idle, but when i twist it it RAWRS!! I can set off car alarms at will, if i want to. Or i can idle down the street barely heard. Fantastic.
I would say ultimately check with Doc, he will no doubt give the best price anyway ... but you just cannot beat his customer service. Drew even picked up the phone on the weekend when i had a question during install! Unbeatable.
i had both the Vance and hines fish tails and the Samson. I really think that samson has a better looking fishtail then Vance and Hines which look more like a large mouth bass. in my opinion the Samson have more of the classic fish tail look and i like the verity of lengths you can get. as far as sound i could go with either one . i like the baffled sampsons. on the vance and hines i ran the quite baffles but removed the packing they are wrapped in gives you a little more sound but keeps the back pressure, which i feel was better for my fuel injected deluxe. on the question of power i never felt any difference with the fish tails and whats the big deal about loosing a bit seems to me it makes little or no difference unless your pink slip is on the line. I would happily give up a bit to get the look i really want. it seems some people make big things over little things that really do not mount to much. I have never had my bike dyno tuned and never will the numbers are all over the place and are only as good as the operator. i here a lot of numbers tossed around here on the forum but with out the dyno sheet attached its just here say it seems like they are inflated a bit. i say buy the ones that you feel will look the best to you and dont look back or get caught up with worrying about a little hp most of the time what you loose in hp you gain in torque
