Well I live in South Carolina and there is no helmet law. But each boardering state has one. Dont tell the cops but I bought a novelty German helmet for $17. Then I ordered a DOT sticker off ebay (1.99 shipped) that way if im out of state I wont get pulled. Next I painted it flat black (which most come any way) and stuck a decal for a Harley (not sure which model) on the back that I had laying on the shelf. The decal has been on the shelf for about 10 or 15 years and looks vintage because of its age. You may not like it but I have $19 in a "DOT German Harley Helmet" that looks straight out of the good old days. Just an idea for you guys.
Yeah but they stick up on my head instead of fitting on it and I personally dont like it. The bill of the helmet I got sits right above my eye brows the one you sent fits right below my hair line. May be my head shape. Also don't like to have the same exact helmet as 20,000 others. I like to have something at least a little different.

Be careful, I've heard they put the hammer down on ya if they find out you're trying to "fake them out" with a counterfeit DOT label. IMO you're better off just wearing it as is, been doing that for years with no problems.
I use a novelty helmet...I got pulled over a couple months ago and the cop was pissed about the fake DOT as posted above. Then he asked me if I thought he was stupid enough not to know the difference between 1/4 thick and 1 1/4 thick.
I told him someone gave it to me when i bought the bike and that I am too stupid to know the difference...
He let me off but I hate getting hassled by some Po-dunk sheriff on a nice Sat. morning.
Im looking for a low profile DOT...you can fight city hall but it costs you $125 and two points.
All that aside the helmet turned out good, nice job.
Why frig with the establishment, just buy a cheap DOT approved helmet and avoid being hassled!
My best lady friend is an ER nurse here in Daytona and has said many times how bad off riders are who come in after an accident are because of head injuries (no helmet worn).
Your choice of course where law allows.
I don't keep up much on helmet laws but I have read several articles where police are cracking down on the novelty helemts in mandatory wear states. Ya gotta figure it's a easy money maker for them. Check out Daytona helmets, they are one of the lowest profile helmets I have seen and are still DOT. Probably cost lesss than a ticket would. I have a 3/4 and a Hawk helmet from them . Like them both and neither make me look like a bobble head.

Did she tell you how bad off that guy in the roll over or tbone was for not wearing his helmet in his car!?!?! EMT for 14 yrs and I've seen just as much or worse in car accidents...maybe we should let the goverment tell us we have to wear a DOT helmet in our cages!!!!
