I wouldn't throw my money away on "Harley" boots. They are just some regular boot with Harley stamped on them so they can double the sale price. Just like the "Harley" helmets are KBC but twice the price. If you want some good riding boots I would look at:

Alpinestars, SIDI, Icon, Oxtar, Joe Rocket, AGV
Absolutely G-D right! HD boots are about looks or some image, but not riding.

I sprung for a pair of Dainese Dr. Jekyll riding boots and love 'em. Armored Velcro covers for over the laces (no snagging), smaller toe for better shifting (I can ride my wife's Triumph with these also) and mighty comfy. Kevlar and stuff like that in strategic places. Light, too. About $160 if you look around. Try any local generic sportbike dealer or accessories shop or order from www.extremesupply.com
Very comfy.
Call me old-fashioned, but except in the unlikely event that I'm drafted for the first mission to Mars, I won't be wearing boots that look even remotely like those.

FWIW, I paid under $80 for my H-D boots.
So, is it all about the looks then, or the $80? I notice you didn't happen to mention riding. Just checkin'....

(BTW, precious little of a boot shows under pants of any length)

I didn't think I needed to spell out anything about riding, but I see I was wrong. So, to be perfectly clear, 1. Any sturdily-built boot that covers your ankle will do fine for riding despite claims to the contrary and 2. It's not all about the look, but that doesn't mean I want to appear to have just walked off the set of a bad '50s-era space movie.

I like both Red Wing and Danner. I use the Danner for Cold weather and the Red Wings for three seasons.. My Red Wings were made in the USA and so are my Danners.

Red Wing also makes boots for Harley, they sell many styles. Here are pictures of mine.

Danner: Gor-Tex and 200 gr of insulation.

Well, that was more clear, clarification apprciated. Ankle converage is important and you'll notice the "pucks" over the bone prominences on that boot pictured. After owning 6 Harleys over 35 years, I'm pretty much past logos or what other riders think about what my gear looks like, I tend to go for the practical, from whatever souce (best riding gloves I ever had were Hondaline...and they were good for skiing, too!). The engineer/combat boot "look" is certainly better than tennis shoes, but less than optimal for riding, as noted by another poster. Not to mention weight and clearance under different shift mechanisms (sure, I could ratched up my shift lever for Corcoran Jump Boots if I wanted "the look").

Somebody mentioned boots, and I made a valid suggestion. Invoking "bad 50's-era space movies" just suggests an element of the look being somehow threatening. (Hey, I LIKED "Forgotten Planet ) By all means, wear whatever look makes you comfortable...I wouldn't dispute anyone's right to so choose.

Danners are the best boot on the market in my opinion. I have wore many types of boots on-duty/off-duty and on my Harley. The Danners I have are also gortex and I paid around $94. They fit like a glove and I wear 12 4eee. This is the first time I have heard anything negative about Danners. But then again at a PD you have those who B*tch and moan about everything even when the Dept. is buying them $150-200 boots. So I would not put too much into that. You can't go wrong with Danners. just my 2 cents

My PD just started buying us Danners. We get a lighter pair and a winter pair. I got a new pair of the winter boots this morning and sent them back for a different size. I talked to 5 different guys this morning about the boots. All of them hate them and were wearing boots that they had paid for themselves over the supplied Danners.

Danner, best boot I have ever worn. I spent 20 years as a grunt in the Marine Corps. Your boots are your only transportation. I still have the 1st pair of Danner boots I bought in 1988 and still wear them to this day. You can't go worng with a danner boot.

If you wanna go for broke and get the best boot known to man try Wesco Boots. http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/product_listing.asp I still have 2 pair of lineman boots from '88. They will rebuild them for you when they wear out too...yeah, just like the 6 Million Dollar Man. At near $300, they are pricey but so was your Harley and you probly didn't scrimp on your jacket either did you? Don't be a traitor...buy American stuff...eat Chineese food.

My apologizes if I came on too strong. Yours is a valid suggestion and those boots are no doubt "cutting edge" footwear, but I'm admittedly too old and set in my ways to consider them. For me, boots are made of leather, whatever their style or purpose.
