Angry Cracked crankcase need replacement 2001 FatBoy

Hi all this is what happened to me I went and tried to perform my own oil change and cracked the crankcase by trying to remove the nuts right below the crankcase. Is replacing the crankcase a fairly easy thing for an experienced Harley Mechanic to do. Please any info would be very helpful. Thanks.

Not all that easy to do, lots of work the whole engine has to be dissassembled. Bet it will cost some $$ for sure. Not sure why people do that and remove that plug then crank it in real tight, it's a tapered pipe thread. You arent the only one thats done that. I have heard that some peole have been sucessful using JB Weld to repair it. Good Luck

How big and how bad are the cracks? New cases are $$$$$, plus the labor to remove/rebuild/replace motor. If possible, I'd try anything and everything before replacing the cases, unless it was time to rebuild the engine.

How bad is the crack. Flush crank case and take it to a welding shop that has a tig.

I guess it not that bad of a crack that I could use JBWeld to try repairing it. I mean I really feel bad break it and my bike on has 1000miles I was wondering about what it would take to replace the crankcase and if it was worth doing that job.

I would say probably not worth it unless you need an excuse to put in a 120". If you JB weld i would drill the end of the crack to stop it from growing.

And to state the obvious.......

Get a manual. It'll save a bunch of $ and headache.

I guess I’m going to JBWeld once I’ll wet it dry without the oil for awhile

Be sure to remove the paint or the JB weld wont stick.
