I was planning on installing a SEC to get rid of the clunking, but i'v read through some threads about them and noticed that some have complained of vibrations and chugging/engine pulses in 5th and 6th gears.
is this normal when you put in a SEC or did they do something wrong ?
can you all put out some pros and cons on this "upgrade"
I have toyed with the idea of this upgrade as well but when looking and reading it says "07-11 softails". Mine is an 06 Deluxe. Does that leave me out for some reason or another? If you use this upgrade, does it work on the stock clutch assembly or does one need the SE performance clutch upgrade as well. Interested in all of your input on this.
I've also read that some who did it back early in 07-08 still had issues with oil flow..
I know the new bikes comes with it but I also have read that is seems the mostly the build motor had more problems with the stock comp..
Very few others than me did what Joe Melton said to do to stop the CLUNK..
I had my tuner back off the timing at (0) rpms and (0) throttle at start up and after He did that at 16K when I had the cams put in I've never had the CLUNK since them...
The motor does turn over slow on the first rev of starting, then its normal start.
But she hasn't clunked since the tuner did it.
The clunking at speeds I've never had and it seems most those who do the 103 BB kit and is making over 110# of TQ and 90+HP on tourning bikes really had the problem..
If U get a chugging viberation, IMO its due to Ur actually lugging the motor..
U will get that more again IMO with a stock or maybe a STG1 motor.
After I put in the cams I can run as low as 1800 in any gear with the Andrews 26's and she pulls like all get out, without any problems or issues..
I have one in mine and the only chugging you get is if you lug it down just like a stick car, not that I normally do but have done it a couple times. It does make it work better IMO overall. It starts better, runs just as smooth I really don't see a downside to it.
thanks for the info guys. i had never heard of the lugging issue until i came across a older thread yesterday. just wanted to make sure i wasn't gonna plunk down 250 bucks and end up with other issues. btw this a internally stock motor with the possibilitys of cams next winter.
for those who did them yourself, did you just put the comp in or did you do other bearings and seals while you where in there. its only got 14k+ on it, so i was wondering if there was any seals or bearings that are a issue that i should replace while in there.
