Hi, I am buying some slipons for my husband's Cross Bones. I just can't tell which ones fit his bike. I want to get slash down Screamin' Eagle II pipes from pre-2007.
Do I get the ones for the FLSTF/FXSTD, the FXSTN, or some other model?
Harley's website recommends one type of screamin eagle for the x bones and it says "for shotgun style exhaust".
His exhaust is completely stock right now except for V&H slipons, so I want the slipons that fit the stock headers.
I don't think the Crossbones was introduced until 2008, so I'm not sure what pre-2007 exhaust would fit because I don't know what changes were made in model year. Is there a specific reason for SE II slip-ons? Also, if you're merely swapping out one brand of slip-on pipes for another, I'd go with Rush over the SE IIs.
Well, the reason I want the SE II is because they are sort of an intermediate loudness. The stock are obviously too quiet but the Vance and Hines are so loud that he can barely hear his tunes while riding. I have SE II on my sporty and it's the intermediate between stock and Python so I thought the same would work for him.
Also, I want the SE II because I hear the new Screamin Eagle are crap.
Maybe I'll look around for another brand that isn't loud as hell but fits a '09 Cross Bones.
i did same tried every slip on out there in the end i went with a supertrapp supermegs 2-1 pipe best pipe on the market period .tuneable quiet untill you hammer on the throttle smooth response just a great pipe and any dyno guy will tell you 2-1 is best for tq/hp and the supertrapp is best of all 2-1 pipes..for the record the worst pipes for robbing power short shots and true duals stay away from them..ask me how i know lol spent a small fortune on pipes and dyno's..
just my .02
I have baloney cut rush slip ons installed on my 09 Crossbones. They sound and look great IMO. I would consider getting stage 1 though because the bike will run a little hotter.
In case you change your mind, I have a new set of Rush 1.5" Slash Down slip-ons that are the same noise level as SE IIs. I also have a new set of Rush 1.75" straight cut slip-ons. Both have been installed on my bike and both have very slight marks on the chrome where the heat shield was mounted. I have both the chrome and black heat shield for the slip-ons. They can both be powdercoated very inexpensively if you prefer black over chrome.
