Low End Knock
I have an '05 Softail Standard with 9,900 miles. Recently, I've noticed a low end knock just after starting the bike for the first time of the day. After the bike warms up, the knock disappears. Any ideas?
I was talking to a mechanic this weekend who told me that you shouldn't let the bike warm up for a long period of time before you drive off......he said pull the choke, rev the motor and go. It has something to do with the crankshaft and the bearings rotating at low RPM's......they have a tiny wobble which tends to bang around the crank shaft a little bit at idle. He also used the example of drag bikes where they run them when they are cold. Fire up the motor, heat up back tire, haul ***!
