Default EFI Fuel Filter

Yesterday I attempted to change the fuel filter on my 02 EFI Fatboy. Could not get the internals out of the tank. Finally found a video on Youtube which explained the articulating arm design of the apparatus. Thought I'd share it.

Alway good to refresh it every so often, There's usually several vids on doing it in here every yr.

Here's another good one I saved from this 09 thread in here.

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...e-problem.html

I had the pin hole in the gas line last summer, 550 miles away from home during a riding vacation.

So I'd advise all to change hoses inside the tank and filter at same time.
Mine was 5yrs old and 32k when it started leaking.

Follow-on Question. The internal fuel lines Harley sells are some sort of plastic and apparently become brittle over time . Can a quality generic rubber fuel line be used inside the tank?

NO the rubber will deteriorate. You need Napa/Gates submersible fuel line 5/16. This is one of my favorite fuel threads:https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...fuel-line.html

Be sure and thoroughly clean the fuel pick-up pad while you have the assembly out.

Any In-Tank Fuel Line will become brittle over time. The gasoline leaches out the plasticizers in the plastic Fuel Line and the plasticizer molecules are replaced with other fuel based hydrocarbons. As long as the Fuel Line remains wet with gasoline it will remain flexible. But once it dries out, it will become brittle and will fail. If not immediately then within a relatively short period of time. Even when re-submerged in gasoline the original flexibility will have been lost. So you either have to be fairly quick about making the Fuel Filter Change, or you need to replace the In-Tank Fuel Lines.

Nice. It cost me $250 to get mine changed a few years ago at an Indy for my RK. I definitely will do it myself next time.
