Problem with swapping bolts is that there are not any black ones I could find other then the black phosphate coated ones that will rust out in no time at all. I guess removing the bolts, spray painting them then touching up after re-installing might be the best route.

He brushed them so my suggestion and what I may do is just loosen the bolts so that they back away from the other parts slightly then paint and let dry before tightening and touching up.

I use 1st Shot or 1-shot.... The outdoor sign paint used by pin-stripe artists. It's very durable paint that lasts forever!

Sorry about the name.... But it is great paint!

Here is a pic of the fender strut bolts on my Lo.

that reflector just jumps out and smacks ya in the face now doesn't it!

Bolts look good though! Might have to get off my *** and do mine one of these days.

No offense to anybody, but I would personally stay away from home parkerizing.

It deals with hazardous chemicals and heat! Plus, if it's your first time doing it, it usually doesn't turn our very well.

I re-built a few knuckleheads and a 1951 panhead a few years ago, and the stuff that you could buy parkerized compared to anything somebody did at home was way way better.

It also looks kinda dark grey and dirty.

Wish I had a better picture, but the rear axle and the service stand bolts are parkerized.

How about powdercoating? I'm fixin' to try my hand at powdercoating parts on my Blackline, and bolts would be a good first project.

Got the Eastwood gun and powder, just bought a toaster oven and plan on making the toaster oven box into a spray booth ...

Most of the bolts I just loosened and them painted. Once dry tighten carefully and touch up if needed. There are a few that were just a seas to remove and paint off the bike. Sorry I don't remember which ones I did which way.

Thanks for all the nice words on the look. And the reflector is required to get an inspection sticker and they seem to be very tight on that here in MA

Harleyfiremedic, grab some black reflective tape and cover the reflector. Same result.

Or try another inspection station. I know lots of bikes (mine included) with no reflectors and pass our yearly inspection no problems.

BTW I'm from MA as well.

I put some black reflective pinstripe on mine. Front downtubes and swingarm. Blends right into the frame and lights up bright white in direct light.
