Cut and solder, or at the very least use a weatherproof heat shrink crimp connector.
Mine is an 05 train, and I used the blue wire for my plate light, black is ground. The connector for the rear wiring should be under the seat on the right side near the battery.
Why would you ever use a scotch clip? they are the worst thing ever invented. for the number of times I have had to fix wiring after someone has used them. they puncture the casing of the wire enabling moisture, road salt, and grime to enter the wire. I wouldn't even tell some one to use those in the dash of a cager. Do it right solder and shrink tube. And dont take a test light and go poking wires, does the same thing.
For all the times you've fixed them, I've used them without problem. I wouldn't rely on them for anything important, but for LED plate lighting and the rear running light, they'll do. The OP can do whatever he wants, it's his ride.
