Does anyone have a flush mount gas gauge that works? I'm just curious before I contact surdyke about a replacement. It seems like a lot of money for something if it doesn't work. Or maybe I've done something wrong but it seems kind of hard to screw something up that only has 3 color coded wires. lol
I've checked my wiring and it's matched up correctly but the problem I'm having is the low fuel indicator stays on, both on the console and cap and I only get 1 indicator dot on the cap gauge even when the tank is full.
I know I can ignore it and just go by mileage to determine my fuel range but like I said, it's a lot of coin just to have a flush mounted cap. But then again, HD does stand for high dollar!
i have a few buddies that have them and seem to work fine although not that accurate at times..could be your sender.. from sitting over winter mine has now started doing the same sorta thing..i replaced my speedo and since my fuel light has been coming on early.thought it was related, but the dealer says no they will replace the sending unit on warrenty..im ok with that
Damn brother (fly) do you have a different ride for each day? My dream! LOL
Can't dispute that, apparently the low fuel indicator is on all the time. lol I call that an epic design flaw because as I stated it is the standardized symbol for indicating low fuel. At least IMHO

I believe that is signed correct...it is suppose to be lit all the time. I agree that it is a bad design and should not be lit...but I think it even says so in the instructions. I not at home but will you check the papers that came with mine when I get a good night chance.

what 3 gauges i have. and posted pictures of and you have to check. Hmmmm
I don't think i have 3 bad ones. actually only one on the fatboy some times all the leds dots light up sometimes some of them don't.. and not from gas usage. this is with a full tank
there is a icon on either the console or fairing showing the low fuel icon. this one only shows Hey this is a gas gage. Otherwise you would only have some dots at the bottom.. sorta like on the plane showing people how to buckle their seat belts. If your that stupid don't fly. But I think thats why its on there.

Sorry about my bad spelling on my last post...stupid autofill on the droid was throwing words in that I didn't notice.
This is a direct C&P from the installation instructions:
OPERATION
See Figure 11. When the gauge receives power, all the blue
LEDs (1) will illuminate and will turn off one at a time until the
approximate fuel level in the tank is displayed.
The fuel pump icon (2) is illuminated at all times during operation. The fuel pump icon is not a low fuel level warning light.
The photocell (3) senses ambient light level and will dim the
fuel pump icon and LEDs in low light conditions.
Alright, great news, surdyke.com came through with a no questions ask replacement set of flush mounts. Although, it did take several days for it to get through their return approval process and then I received an email wanting me to ship the ones I have back. I said screw it, I wasn't going to worry with it and was just going to leave it be. Low and behold, a few days ago, after I had pretty much forgotten about it, I received an email with a tracking number!
Finally got around to installing the new gauge and BAM, I'm happy to report it WORKS! Working like a champ! Guess after all that, I did have a bad gauge, it happens. My console light is out and now I just have the gauge functioning as it's suppose to.
