My rear tire is showing a lot of wear... tire only has about 7000 miles on it and the front tire looks almost new on my 2011 Heritage. About 70-75 you can feel the vibration thru the whole bike, more around the footboards. I know, vibration has all kinds of causes but I didn't notice it until the rear tire had some miles on it so I'm pointing in that direction. The experienced softail riders out there, whats normal for this bike! Maybe I should take it back to the dealer and have one of the mech's ride it????
I have an 08 Heritage. 7,000 miles on a rear tire is pretty good, don't expect too much more than that. Front tire usually lasts twice as long as the front, I changed my front out at 14K when I replaced my rear for the second time.
If it didn't vibrate when the tire was new and does now, chances are it needs to be re-balanced. A simple solution is dyna beads. These beads will re-balance your wheels on every ride.
Cheers!
Dynabeads work both in tubed and tubeless tires. They come with an applicator that allows installation through the valve stem. Simply remove inner valve airing down the tire, put beads in tire, replace valve, air up and go ride,
First, I'm not going to tell you to screw around with dyna beads, etc. over concerns about vibration when you make the statement "showing a lot of wear" because I don't want to be responsible for your death, indirectly or otherwise.
Second, it depends upon what you mean by "a lot of wear". Is it even wear? Are you down to the tread wear markers (either in the tread or a stripe showing up on the tire).
Third, 7k miles is normal life for HD's with good traction tires (softer rubber). What tires are on the bike, made by whom and what model tire?
If its the Lop 401, least thats what my 07 has, then on the 4 of them I've averaged 10k on the first 3, and now at 6k on the one that's on the bike I'll replace it in about 4k more.
And the front 402's went 20k and still had more, but I just change out the front every other time I do the back..
May be U have some cupping going one.?? I'd have the dealer check it out, might get them to warranty the tire if so...
