Having a bitch of a time moving my ECM behind my oil tank. Any advice from those that were successful? I plan on mounting the ecm to the two bolts that hold the back of the oil tank on. I can get the ECM between the two mounting points of the oil tank but I think I have to come through the left side so my ECM will be in the right spot.
I removed the fender and the black plastic fender extender, disconnected the ECM . Routed the harness under the seat peg plate, and tie wrapped the ECM to the frame area behind the oil tank.
You have to remove all of the oil tank bolts. Take the bolts out of the fuse panel. Then wiggle it around to get as much play as you can. Twist the ECM cable around to the direction you want it pointing, and then just force it down. It will go but it doesn't seem like it will. It is a major PIA!
This is how I had it initially. After seeing other posts, I realized the cooling fins could face out and be more effective by turning the plug over and having the ECM hang down from the plug.
Mine's tied in with zip ties. 6,000 miles and no problems.

Looks like you are on the left of that left oil bolt is that correct? I could get it through the middle but not the left side. Did you also undo the Allen bolts just below those two rear oil tank bolts? Maybe that's the problem mine are still in.
I just got a shorter battery and put a rubber mat on top of it and brought the ecm right on top of the battery. seat holds it in place just fine, been like that for 3 years now works great. its not going anywhere
Harley Charlie. Who makes the battery? I got a dished battery cover so I could run the ECM on top of the battery. I have a thundermax so I'd hate to get the port mucked up behind the splashguard.

I forget the maker, I will check tonight for you. it works great, have no problem with losing cranking power and it is really the easy way to move the ecm
I took out every bolt that could possibly be in the way! Major PIA! Once I got it jammed down there, I was able to turn the plug over so the ECM fins are to the rear and exposed (not like the photo). The Plug is now at the top and the ECM hangs from it.
