It actually does happen with some frequency according to many other threads I've seen on this topic. And the threads I've read were just in the Softail section. I never bothered to look in any other sections, just happened to notice them here.

I've read enough threads on this to make a habit of checking my Pulley & Rotor bolts every cleaning. I've had a rear wheel lock on me at freeway speeds on 2 occasions, no fun. I'm not sure how many more I can survive, so I always check things the absolute best I can when cleaning my bike up on the rack

I know Softails have problems with pulleys coming loose...which I believe is the factory "torque to yield" bolts...but 100 miles..they didn't tighten them...plain and simple.

I really hadn't thought that was going to be one of those things that has to be checked routinely. I sure as hell don't want a lock-up like you've experienced and I'm glad that didn't happen last night! Does re-torquing the bolts mess up the cured Loctite?

Pulley bolts are a "wear" item and Harley states that they should be replaced with new ones each time.

If they put them on with impact they may have stripped them

If the bolt moves you will have broke the bond of the loctite. Though even when the bond is broke there's still some resistance. If I was to check torque on a bolt and seen movement, I'd back it all the way out and put a dab of loctite on it and re-torque it back in place.

I don't know that this is actually necessary, but no hark can come from doing so either, so why not.

Tom, that's all I'm saying...in 100 miles there's NO way even without loctite that the pulley bolts are coming out IF they were tightened. It just ain't gonna happen, NOT a chance, ZERO chance. If so, there are much bigger issues going on with alignment, fitment etc etc...but in 100 miles, the bolts aren't coming out IF tightened, even without loctite. Just Not happening.

In the 2007 Service Manual it says:

... Using new screws, install belt sprocket if removed. Tighten screws to 55-65 ft-lbs (74.6-88.1 Nm) ...

In the 2009 Service Manual it says:

... Using new screws, install belt sprocket if removed. Tighten screws using following sequence:
Tighten screws to an initial torque of 60 ft-lbs (81.4 Nm).
Back screws off 1/2 turn (180 degrees).
Tighten screws for a final torque of 77-83 ft-lbs (104.5-112.6 Nm).

And no mention of thread locker on those bolts in either manual! Go figure.

I made a copy of that page in my service manual to take with to the shop. The specs in the 2011 manual are the same you mention from the 2009. I don't know why it doesn't mention locker though.

Might be because when using new OEM bolts as mentioned is the SM, the bolts come new with what they call a lock patch which is the loctite already applied.

Glad to hear they're going to take care of it all for you.
