So I downsized from a road king to a cross bones and couldn't be happier. But unfortunately I could use some cash so I am selling my bike. I have between 6 and 9 to spend. I am big guy 6'1 300 lbs mostly local riding, but one longer annual trip about a week. I love the springer, but am pretty open, just something thats reliable and comfortable. Was looking at a sweet 98 fat boy, never had evo though. Also open to non hd and non cruiser models. Thanks.
My next scoot be custom frame with that S&S X-Wedge engine and maybe a XW-R Transmission, then again maybe I'll slap it on an HD frame and grab license tag says 'sleeper'...heheh
Have you looked at the Switchback? They look pretty nice and are very versitile. I have a Heritage and they are also pretty versitile. Looking to get a fairing for mine which will make it even more comfortable.
You could get a used dyna and modify the suspension.
For non HD I like the BMW R1150RT. Can score a used one for 6000-8000 with all the options. They are a reliable high milage ride. The issue I have with BMW is the car dealers that sell bikes. Only go to a BMW motorcycle shop, the owners of these shops actually ride and know what they are doing. This may be an issue for you depending on were you live.
Pick up a RGC Light steering and nothing better for hauling the mail. I rode in the rain every day last week and leathers were not wet above the calves. I cannot believe I didn't find these sooner, it changed my riding style alot! I ride a lot more than I did with just the softails, it rides so much more planted and is confidence inspiring! My 2003 SED was a hotrod, but the suspension was not up to par with the motor especially after the cams, intake and exhaust. Next the SE Tuner and tune. It was alot of motor
But a friend and I switched bikes on a ride and although his was a 96" he has done some work to it, I loved how much easier it was to ride the twisties, then the slab for a bit be4 we were done!!! I fell in love with the bike, it isn't big feeling to me and you're big guy and this would fit u like a glove. There are alot of them out there and u can find nice ones for sale cheaper than u might think. Try one and see what u think. The dealers will let u ride a used one,(or new if u want) if they have them in stock...
Ultimately it has to fit Ur wallet and your needs from a scooter, perhaps a used VMaxx?

Got it. misunderstood. I have a couple buddys that ride the Yamaha V Star. They are sharp lookin bikes and sound really good! You should be able to find one in your price range. Its a lot of bike for the buck.
