Default Help w Audio Decision

I know there's been a lot of discussion on this topic, however, I need some help making an audio decision for my '06 Heritage Softail. My bike has the standard windshield on it and a bag mounted to the windshield, which really comes in handy. I don't ever intend to remove the windshield, but I could remove the bag, even though would prefer not to.

Although I'm open to other brands, in reading through the threads on the forum I've read good stuff about the Boom Audio systems. I obviously want the best, fullest sound I can get with plenty of volume. Also, I don't drive over 65 usually. So I've got some questions and want to get opinions from the guys that have first hand knowledge.

1. Will the Boom Audio windshield mount kit even fit an '06 Heritage?

2. It makes sense that the windshield remaining in place helps the sound quality of most systems. If this is the case do the handlebar mount speakers sound just as good as the windshield mount, assuming the windshield stays in place? (If so, this would allow me to keep my handy windshield bag... )

3. Do the handlebar mount speakers provide the same or enough bass to hear (with windshield in place) as does the windshield mount kit?

4. Last is does anyone know the approximate price that they charge at the dealership for just the installation portion of either of these products?

Thanks for your assistance and time to help.

I've looked at the J&M speakers and will do some more research on them and give them a second look, but imho they don't look real good. Seems to have a really shallow depth as well which leads me to believe they wouldn't be as full sound or have good bottom end. But like I said, I'll do a little more research on them. Thanks for the input.

I've had boom on mine for a little over a year. The handle bar mount. No windshield. And they are right at eye level. The sound was great at first .... but.... now I can't Jack them up anymore cause I think one is blown. The chrome has turned to $#!t can't even Polish it back to shine. I looked around locally trying to find replacement speakers maybe upgrade them but no luck. Looking online now. At 400 bucks I'm dissapointed. On a positive note, they do look good, and the volume control is right at your thumb which I really like. I can still hear them at 75 MPH but its distorted. I've heard great reviews on the j&M's but like you I just didn't like the look, and I don't know how adjustable they are. The boom you can adjust to aim them right at you (the handlebar mounts) not sure about windsheild mount.

Haha not sure if that helped

Man I hate to hear that they tarnished and one is blown. That sucks. They seem to look good and have a good deal of mounting flexibility. The volume control is a great selling feature as well. I guess using a windshield and the fact that I'm usually cruising may help things out a bit. Got any idea why your one blew?

My g/f put this on her Lowrider a year or more ago and moved it to her Fatboy recently. She runs her iPod through it and loves it. Small speakers blend in pretty good with the bike and she claims the sound is very good. Hard to beat the price.

Man I have no clue. Maybe cause I had heavy music turned all the way up on my phone and on the speakers haha. I do like the speakers just wished they were better quality. But what can you expect from 3" speakers. I adjust the equal to where it sounds ok now. But I'm looking to replace them. If I didn't have a long list of stuff I want for my bike I'd be looking a little harder.
