Default buying a 2001 heritage softail

I'm looking at buying a 2001 heritage softail from a guy in the nextfew days. Hes asking 8000 and its got 43000 miles on it. The bike looks to be in great condition. Is there anything I should be weary of with the 2001 heritages? Any specific questions I should ask the guy before I buy it?
thanks for any advice

I've been looking at new and used bikes for over a year in Northern Colorado. And a I have a friend with a similar 2001 with ~33000 miles on it. I can tell you he would not part with his bike for anything near that. In my limited experience, 8k would be a good price for good running and in decent shape 2001 Heritage. But what do I know, I just spent 12k on a pristine 2004 Heritage (FLSTCI) with 2200 miles on it and have been told on this site that I paid too much. Is the bike fuel injected, original owner, has it been down, has it been serviced regularly and are there any service records?

12k for a 04 Heritage is an awful lot....Around here that will get you into an 08-10 Heritage easily. Not quite sure about the 2001 for 8k, doesn't sound too bad but it also doesn't sound like a steal. My 2011 Deluxe that I just picked up was 14.5 with only 3k miles on the clock. It looks like it just came out of the crate.

That seems to be the conclusion around here. But I'm happy with the deal, the bike has 2k on it and is fully factory loaded with a lot of dealer upgrades like SE II pipes, stage 1 air cleaner, upgraded chrome foot boards/controls, hand controls, luggage rack, ext. A new comparable Heritage, fully loaded at the factory without the dealer add on stuff was going to cost me over 21k (includes dealer prep). Like I said, I have been looking for a while and this bike was pristine and by far the best deal I have seen.

I wouldn't feel too bad about the price as it depends on what the bike looks like and how clean and the such. I would check on the chain tensioners if they were changed or not

thanks for the input.

$8000 around here is a little under what most are asking for the heritages.

here is the bike

Ask the owner about the cam chain tensioners. If he looks at you with that deer in the leadlights look then they haven't been changed. That's about an $800 job if they haven't been done and should be considered in the price.
