Default GPS power supply for 2012 Deluxe

I've previously owned Electra Glides, and have been able to hook up my GPS to a dedicated wire under the fairing. I contacted the dealer and was told that there was an orange striped white wire in the headlight shell that would work. This proved to be not factual, ie- 2 blacks, 2 yellows and 1 white wire, but no orange striped white wire anywhere to be found!

I found an orange/white wire under the front left of the fuel tank, along with a black ground, which could be an option, but I really didn't want to unhook the tank and move it back for access. Has anyone done a permanent hookup of this nature? If so, I would appreciate any helpful info you might choose to provide.

When I had my old bars and gps, I used a piece of electricians fish tape to pull the gps wire under the tank to the seat area. Once there, splice it into a switched power wire, I think I used used the rear running light circuit.

It's been awhile since I messed around under the seat but I'm fairly certain that's where I hooked up power for my cb radio. Tapped into the accessory wire which is orange/white. Another option would be to connect right into the accessories fuse. Come to think of it I remember connecting something or other into that too.

Do you have the factory pigtail for a Battery Tender alongside the frame , under the seat? MY Heritage came with one. If so, just get a matching pigtail and plug into that. Probably won't use BT and GPS at the same time. I did that to install a Cig lighter in my windshield bag. No sense cutting into perfectly good wiring.

I also recall reading here recently about a member connecting to a wire under the console. Don't recall if it was an always hot or an accessory wire. He ran the wire out the front of the console to his device.

There is an emtpy wire harness connector under the tank (front left) that is for a fender lite. You can get the mating connector from your dealer then build your own harness. The power is switched by your ignition switch.

Great tip! Beats my wire running along the side of the bike off my battery tender pigtail.

Mine in spliced into my lights so I can't drain the battery since the GPS draws a lot of power. My radio is hard wired directly.
