I recently traded my '04 Road King Classic with a very comfortable HD tour seat for a '12 Heritage Softail Classic. i replaced the stock pillion with the heritage tour pillion. a tour pillion that is wider with more cushion should be more comfortable, right?? not so much. after about 30 min she is moving around trying to get comfortable and at about an hour she is beating me on the helmet telling me to pull the @%$& over!!!! so after countless hours of searching the net the consensus is HD pillions suck!!! the name that kept coming up is Mustang Seats, their pillion is very comfortable from all that I've read BUT you have to replace the rider seat to use their pillion, how convienent....for them!!! i love the look of my stock rider seat and for the most part find it comfy, not as much as my Road King but i can live with it. so the other option and name that kept popping up in my search is Mean City Cycle seat mod. what I'm looking for is feedback from those of you who have had their pillion moded by them....is it worth the money, is it more comfy and what mod did you get. right now I'm looking at the double decker. while I'm at it I'm thinking i may as well do my rider seat, i just don't want to make it worse though!!! so input on the stock rider seat mod is appreciated as well
I've just gone through a similar situation recently. I ordered the Mustang seat wide touring version for myself and my wife because I wanted a driver backrest. The Mustang seat was a. too hard and b. too wide and c. raised her seat height one in which for her was too high too hard and too wide. I personally love the touring seat by Mustang for the driver after I broke it in. After all of this I am sending the Mustang seat to mean city cycles to have it softened and raylored to my wife's desires for height and width. I'll be happy to post a review here and they When it comes in and after she gets a chance to butt test it.
So in conclusion I would yes recommend mean city cycles based on the research I've done so far. Can't wait to see how my wife likes the new seat I have high expectations.
I had the driver seat of my Fatboy done by Mean City last year. Double decker memory foam, Lowered 1" Can't say enough for the comfort. Now on another point I bought a Mustang Vintage wide Solo for the wife's Sportster It was ok but raised her an inch or so and was a bit wide in the front. We found a local who shaved it down 1.5" added memory foam, narrowed the front and moved her 1.5" forward. All this and if she does not like it after the break in he will adjust it for free until she likes it. So far so good. And it was less then Mean city because we did not have to ship it.
