Looking to get a custom tank made and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on an external fuel pump I could use. Links/pictures/experiences would also be a good help. Thanks again all. I always appreciate the input.
I'll dig around a bit. I remember seeing something on the web, it was a rectangular aluminum block that housed the fuel pump. Looked to be about 2" x 3" x 1" or so. It mounted in a recess in the bottom side of the tank, so you'd need to have that built into it, but seemed like a pretty sweet setup. I was toying with the idea of a custom tank for awhile, trying to get rid of the ugly factory dash setup, but ran out of cash. Maybe next year!
I havent seen an external one but what jreichart is talking about would give you that clean look up on top and if im not mistaken a sportster fuel pump is mounted like he said.
Yeah hspring. I know main drive will do it, but I need a sportster donor tank to send him so he can cut the Fuel pump flange out of it and weld it into a new tank. Plus i would also need all the sportster fuel pump parts and what not. If I could find a sportster take off with the pump and all the parts that wasn't going to cost me an arm and both of my legs and my first born, it would make my life easier. I have a friend who has a sportster tank he'd give me, but it was for a carbed bike. That's kind of why I was looking for an external pump.
Ahhh, I great idea I have never considered before? I have a new tank, waiting on finding the rest of my tins to do a paint job when ready. I will keep this in mind and watch this thread because now I am intereted in this too. I don't want to use and ruin my stock tins because I love them so I have another tank just sitting and waiting. Maybe I can get that done ahead of time so its ready for the swap when I do paint. Always great information and idea's here on this site!!!
