Talking Twin disc 08 fatboy

Hi,

Thought i'd share With all the FATBOY owners thats wanna run factory wheels that it can be done.(and wasn't a big job at all !!!)
Because when i decide that i needed twin discs i couldnt find anyone that had done it and most talk was that it couldnt be done (using 0em Wheel)

Well all. it can be done and at a very low price....

I brought a complete twin disc set up off an 2010 roadking with the matching master cylinder. Had my engineer look at it and the wheel, $500 nz later the job was done.

Had to buy :

1.Dash3 fitting to adapted the brake line.... ended up using the factor single disc braided line, turned it upside down and tthe caliper end fitting the roadking master clinder (which is the same m/cylinder as the one on my Harley Streetrod). Cut the lines at the right point an with the das3 fitting in place it was done

machining.

1. right side of wheel to attach disc.... No problem with it been hollow when he machined it.

2. new spacer for the right hand side. (L/S orig)

3. copy an weld caliper lugs onto right slider .(I had i oem sliders off the roadking but mounting points for the guard was wrong and the sliders not look te same as the oem FATBOY ones. The whole point of this job was to use factory parts an still leave the bike looking oem)

ther was a couple of times i had to take slider back jst to mill it so disc was perfect in middle of caliper. 5min max

End Result:

I knw hav a FATBOY that STOPS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If u like to ride ur bike fast, then u knw u gotta be able 2 stop.

The diffence is unbelieveable pple !!! Most of the time i am only using 1 finger now too pull the beast up, two if i really have too stop in a hurry.
i am running Perilli Night Dagrons on bike, so this also is a big factor (i think) in how the bike pulls up.. not to mention how great and low i can go round any corner with confidents a beautiful tire, jst a shame it dosent last very long...lol
My m8 has an 09 FatBob and he is adding the master cylinder on2 his, because he couldnt believe how much better my bike stopped compaired to his

couple more pixs in my album.... if anyone needs closer pix or from dif angle, let me knw an ill put them up

anyway hope this help fallow FATBOY owners

Chrs, Bill nz

Create a photobucket account and upload your pics there, afterwards you can link to them or use the insert image.

Wow, that is really cool, thanks for sharing that! I've thought many times about what it would take to do this mod, glad to finally know.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

Very nice job but when you were looking and speaking to others you forgot to ask the right person. All Softail triple tree fork tube centers are definitely not the same as there are several different models. Some applications require the hubs to be milled or turned down (depending on your machines capabilities) and some do not. In using a dresser hub or wheel, it depends what type and year of Softail you have.

Softail hubs such as the OP has used must be measured and if the width must be reduced, please check the rotor mounting bolt holes for length after planed modification. I have never modified the wheel that the OP has pictured so I am only saying to verify your measurements first, nothing more than that. The reason for this hub verification/modification is because the triple tree fork tube centers to get your rotors centered into the calipers without the need for caliper mount modification.

You may also use a OEM HD dresser Brembo/300mm rotor combination as well. I am sure that a 20 foot reduction of stopping distance would be the norm using 11 1/2" rotors, twin cam calipers, and good brake pads. For increased performance we use 320 mm rotors and real Brembo calipers with adapters. A reduction in rotating mass is (for stainless w/aluminum carriers as shown) 3.25# V/S single stock 11 1/2" OEM rotors of 4.2#.

I prefer to use 17" rims because of the best selection of rubber is available. Rubber is what deturmines how well the bike will preform. Below is a pair of 320mm rotors with real Brembo twin pin calipers:

Of course we make inverted forks with twin calipers that are radial mounted.

As anyone can see we focus on performance only and reject all lowered bike unless the person is vertically challenged.

Could you elaborate on sizes?

Also I noticed a post of yours stating using tokico 6 piston calipers with a homemade adapter to go on a harley. Your pics disappeared. Any other info on that setup.

I had to shave the caliper 1/4 " on my fxstb wheel to heritage front tree to align the caliper. I was goig to swap the brembos onto this setup but dont want to mill the calipers. I got a set of the tokico's off ebay for 30 bucks with the lines and all hardware. just wondering how the adapter looked.

Stinger, wish I had your machinest close by as I've been wanting to do this sense I've had my Fatboy. It's lacking in the braking department compared to other bikes I've had but like the ride and ease of handleing on this bike best. So all you cut off on the right side hub is the width of the disc? And you didn't have to change out the master cylinder correct? Thanks

Hi,

He machined off whatever the amount was need to make it work.. I dont want to start saying thing about measurements and put any1 wrong.

Put it this way, i once put the wheel on (after changing a front tire) an
i'd notice that the wheel felt like it was grabbing jst a very little (like the brakes were jst slightly on when i spin the wheel) After scratching my head 4 a few minutes i realized i had put the wheel on the wrong way, took ot off spin it around and wheel spin normal agian. So that tells me the left side must be so so close to being the same offset as the right. i knw he only made a new spacer for the right side.

i Ride this bike at over 200kph often and handles mint.

As for the master cylinder. i used the one that came off an 010 roadking to match the roadking calipers (Both master and calipers are the exact same as what is on my 05 harley streetrod) The master/c is a bigger unit than the stock fatboy...Been told that the calipers are in fact brembos (maybe some1 can comfirm) so maybe the master/c is also brembo ??? i knw that it has metric thread where brake line bolts on it.

Hope i hav explained it right.... As i said above, my m8 has an 09 Fatbob (Has twin disc also) but his bike has the same master cylinder and calipers as the orig 08 fatboy has... he was happy as with his brakes, till he rode mine. Now he's hoping that putting the same bigger master cylinder on will make a better dif to his. He has a buell and compair the feel of my brakes to that..

chrs, Bill
