Default What newer year fatboy?

I can't take it anymore... I need a black Fatboy. Was approved for a NIB 2012 yesterday. Before I drop 18 and some thousand I have some questions.

1. How much does the ABS help. This is the single reasons that I would go new over a much cheaper used model.

2. What major changes to the fatboy occured between 2004-2012?

6 speed or 5 speed?

Also look at an 08 for 12k but it doesn't have ABS... How expensive to throw a front chrome rim on if they don't come with one?

Hopefully you will never have to use the ABS but if you do it might be good to have. I have it mainly because that is the only way you could get the security system (key fob) from the factory.
It's got a 103! down to a 96 down to 88 ci the older you get!
6 speed all the way.
ABS was only available the last couple years I think but it also makes it a PIA when changing bars (longer lines) or extending your foot controls forward!

I vote no on the abs, and you can get a security system installed for a fairly reasonable price. My friends '08 Xbones has FOB security and no abs...........

04-12 there were several changes..
-the 96" motor (now 103"),
-the 6 speed trans (i like mine, it's nice to have that 6th gear for cruising around on faster roads),
-the 200mm tire which came in what.. 07? 06?
-new electrical system starting in 2011 (though i think it was also changed in 2007 too)
-but most importantly, after 2007 they fixed the hydraulic cam tensioners.. so that's one reason to get a 2008+, otherwise it's something else that will always be in the back of your mind as something to go wrong.

ABS I don't have on my 2010 Lo, but after talking with a guy who has it on his 2011 Ultra Classic.. he said he tried stopping going down hill to an intersection, and wound up in the middle of the intersection after the ABS kicked in..it didn't stop him anywhere near as well as he would have liked, and he cursed the ABS for it.. I lock my rear tire all the time, but it doesn't bother me too much.

And if you get a chrome wheel for the correct set of model years, it's really just as easy as taking yours off and putting the new one on (just get the right sized spacers, and make sure the wheel has the correct axle size.. 1" i believe)

I rode a couple of bikes with ABS and I guess that it could be handy to have but I wouldn't base my purchase on ABS one bit. I didn't with my Deluxe.

I have to agree 'no abs'. If one uses both breaks all the time...you can stop on a dime very fast without going head over heals without thinking about it.

I am a abs fan, if you have ever needed it or used it in real world situation it is worth the price. My RoadGlide with abs stops every bit as well as my softail without abs that says a lot when you look at the weight differences in the bikes, abs on wet roads is where it really shines. Worth it to me.

Ya true, makes sense....on slick surfaces it should save the day without relying so much on balance between the brakes and also yourself.

What year did they upgrade to the larger engin and 6 speed? I was told the Denium black of the Fatboy lo required special washing. What happens if you get wax from the car wash on that paint?

Is it still possible to lock the breaks with ABS or does it make them unlockable?
