I sent an email to the shop that installed the new calipers. He replied that he would come pick up the bike and fix it, and that he's "had some trouble with those new Harley chrome calipers." I think he's trying to cover his butt.

I'm having it towed this morning to Fast Eddie, whom I trust implicitly even though he is much farther away. He was the head mechanic for 20 years at our local HD dealership. He'll tell me if it was the fault of the other shop or not and he will fix it correctly.

Boy am I glad when we got to my mom's I showed my husband the problem with the brake by pressing all the way down on the pedal, that must have locked it up in the driveway instead of when I started going down the road. Thank God.

Bike was just picked up by my *trusted* mechanic whom I had not used in a while because he is so far away. Immediately upon looking at the caliper he saw what was wrong. Something was installed backwards. I wasn't there, my elderly dad was and dad couldn't remember exactly what he said was installed incorrectly. I will find out later and post here.

Sheesh. We trust these guys to install things correctly.

I'll tell you one thing and I mean it: I am done with mods. I don't want anything new installed. The bike is going to stay as is with the possible exception of changing things that are causing me pain, like my handlebars.

Done.

Update: the back inside brake pad was not installed properly into the spring clip by whatever means it is held to it. I asked why it took over 600 miles to fail and he didn't quite know except to say that perhaps because I am a moderate rider/braker and came up little by little and pushing down very hard on the brakes in my mom's driveway finished it off.

The shop who put them in wanted to tow the bike and examine it, which is only fair. But I want Fast Eddie to fix it, so that was not possible. So while the first shop is being very good about this in talking with me and wanting to look at this, looks like I might have to eat the repair bill.

But I try to stay positive. I was not hurt and that's worth a million bucks.

Should have the bike back by end of week, just in time to head up to bike week in Laconia next week. I hope to enter a couple of bike shows there... winning something there would really mean a lot because the competition is going to be stiff!

Better to eat a repair bill for a brake caliper than to eat a repair bill from the hospital.

Agreed. I too noticed I hadn't caught the the inner pad's tab while thankfully still on the lift.

Blame it on that pink kick stand haha.

Looking sweet as candy.

Yep as long as broken parts don't mean broken bones. Glad you are getting looked after. GL in the show.
