I'm looking for "hard Bags" now can't find any reasonably priced ones right now. Something will turn up.
D
I guess the best route would be to find a pair of takeoffs on eBay or from an OEM parts reseller. Cycle Visions has a bracket kit for Softies to fit hard bags. They seem to work well from what I have seen but between the brackets and bags, it'll cost ya $$$.
I don't need the brackets as I intent on using the Boss Bags bracket wiht appropriate "mods" to the back of the Hard bags. For that reason Fiberglass bags are preferable to ABS as "glass" is much easier to work and shape then ABS although there are adhesives that go between the two.
There's a guy here in Houston that "extends" ABS bags and does other "body" work and he showed me a set of ABS bags he had extended.
Just need the bag bottom and tops to start that project but yes you are right. It will be $$ to $$$ but I'm ok with that as long as it's not $$$$$$$$$.
Hey "TXSailor", can you shoot me the details on the aluminum plate you used/created between the tour pak & the detachable "Softail" mount? I have the HD mount on now with and have purchased a HD tour pak but it looks like it's going to sit too far forward and won't give the wife much room for comfort. Yours looks like it sits back 2-3" farther than mine does. I have the tour pak & hard saddlebags out for paint as we speak so I can't take any pics to show you the difference in how far your sits back compared to mine.
tlar - PM me your e-mail address and I'll send the "article" I put together on the entire thing.
As to the mounting plate, perhaps these pics will help.
Also not that I have added a 3rd set of holes (on the inside rows - both sides). These are the holes you use to mount the TP & Plate to the mount. It allows fore and aft movement of about 3 inches to gain the room you may need.
Hey TXSailor, I have a 2009 Deluxe and I have already put a Hoppe
Fairing on. I have the leather tour-pak but was looking for the backrest
of the ultra hard case tour-pak. Didn't know if it would be to big on the back. Do you know the lenght, width, height of yours. It seems the one in the HD parts book says they are 21x17x13. If you measure one on a Ultra
Classic they are bigger. Curious. Also, you have lower fairings on.
Is that the stock crashbar for the Deluxe or did lyou do something to make it fit? Thank for your info.
Ok ToothPick. Here's the story and hopefully some of it will help.
When I bought my used TP, it came with two Backrests. One of them has the lower padding (for lack of a better term) attached. It's the piece that fills in between the seat and the back rest. The other was just the back rest. It appears The MoCo changed designs at some point and went from a two piece back rest to a one piece (or vice versa). Enclosed are pictures of the "two piece' but only the top portion.
Not sure exactly where you need the measurements so there is a yard stick in the pics. The Backrest is about 9 inches high but just a bit over 24 inches wide on the outside. I shot pictures of the back since the mounting is key to attachment. None of the dimensions match what you gave me inthe post.
There are three mounts that are rubber mounted. The two outside ones are identical but the one in the center (while the same rubber mounted bolt is not really in the center but off to one side.
As to the Engine Guard - NO this is not the stock Heritage/Deluxe Guard. The lowers are designed to fit the "Glide" type EG which is more square on the top corners. It is the same height as the Heritage but the bottom mounts are 1 inch wider. I have details in my write-up as to how to make it fit and look decent. PM me an e-mail address and i will send it to you.
I'd post the article but with pictures it's over 3.5 Mb in a PDF!!!!
I'm still in the market for some hard bags if anyone knows where a set can be had "reasonably".

I guess we all have our own definition of what's reasonable. I went with Hardstreet bags.
If you wanna watch the video, I did almost the same thing you did -- made my Deluxe into a convertible bagger.
