aysrav - Thanks for the feedback. I watched the video (nice production) and your set-up is very fast to do.

One of my goals was to "duplicate" the aesthetics of the Ultra so I've attempted to find HD parts that will work. One issue I have to consider is the ability to "open" the hardbags with the Ultra TourPak in place as well as "fill" the space between the bottom of the TP and the Samson duals. That is one reason I switched from Hog Deluxe to Boss bags as the Boss 42D's are much larger and fit the space better (with or w/o the TP in place). I think they look exceptionally good w/o the TP and OK with it but I do have limited space to open them when the TP is on. I also wanted the "Softail" look when "stripped" so I want both leather AND Hardbags.

I want Hardbags (preferably extended) that have tops that are hinged like the HD bags (they come off horizontally as opposed to a vertical hinge). That maximizes the interior space and look. Rather specific goals when it comes to finding the right bags.

I'll look at Hardstreet to see what they may have. I'm a really big fan of Used since the cost is usually much, much less........

Safe Riding, D

If you look at the forums, eBay and craigslist you should be able to find a set of hd hard bags. Getting an extended set may be a bit harder but you could always extend a stock pair. Especially if you find a mismatched set. Got mine for $200 and were taken off at dealer so never saw the road.

Was at one of the local dealers yesterday , asking about take-offs, replacements, etc.

$200 is a steal. D

Problem is you are a new member and "restrictions" apply until you have so many valid posts.

Might want to research that a little more before you spend the bucks...hardbags need a frame on the bottom to support any weight...if you try to mount them like leather bags they will break in short order....just picked up a nice set of police bags on ebay for $300.

Thanks for the kind words. I do have one more step to go however.

I bought a pair of OEM HD Hard Hard Bags today ( These are off a Road Glide). Will be sending them off to the painter next week. I still need to find a decent deal on Hardware so if anyone knows a good (cheap - yep I am) source, please let me know.

I still have some "engineering" to do as I want to be able to swap out the Boss Bags for the Hard Bags w/o changing the mounting system significantly between them. They still need to be Quick Disconnect.

I'm looking at maybe using some of the Edge Brackets (very similar to the Easy Brackets but more adaptability) on Both types of Bags. Question is support.....

The Hog Deluxe bags i did have (which were smaller) used the Easy Brackets and they worked fine. The Boss Bags are bigger (read heavier) and have a support plate that goes all the way down the back and under the lip at the back/bottom of the Bag as well as attaching to the Passenger Peg. Of course the OEM ABS bags normally have a bar running under them to the Passenger Peg and off the back up to the Fender strut.

Seems everyone wants to use "their own system". I may be able to get away with the Edge Brackets and a separate "custom bracket" at the bottom for the Boss and OEM since they will be different.

Why are Custom jobs never Easy LOL!!!!

Tom - Good buy on the Police Bags. I can't use them since the lids would hit the bottom of the TP (so i could not get them open....

I hear you on the "frame" but given proper load distribution on the ABS bags, they should work w/o fracturing.

For example the Edge Brackets could be "extended" down the back and then under the bags to build a "shelf" for the bags to sit on. At that point, the attachments at the top are not carrying much of a shear load which is the problem w/o support.
