TXSailor- glad to see ya got some hard bags. I know you were looking.
Question- Did you try your boss bag with the stock pipes on or had you already changed pipes? Looking good -Gives me ideas on mine.

Boss 42D bags do not fit with stock pipes. The Boss web site has some good info on that. I think the new 37 bags will work with stock pipes.

Rode with a friend of mine that has a Ultra Classic. Measured his Tour-Pak and it was 25" (side to side) x 21" (front to back) and around 12 " tall.
I am thinging that is what you got. I still have my Deluxe saddlebags.
They would look real small with that Tour-Pak. May to to do some looking like you did.

I get why you did this but the concern to me is not the money difference between an Ultra and a Deluxe conversion. Its the gross vehicle weight. For example, the GVW of the Ultra is 1360 lbs for a '13 FLHTK with a wet weight of 911 lbs. This gives you 449 lbs for rider and stowed gear.

A '13 Deluxe FLSTN GVW is 1160 lbs with a wet weight of 728 lbs. This gives you 432 lbs for rider and stowed gear.

I'm guessing that you've installed about 75 lbs of extra gear to upgrade to a bagger... maybe more once you go to hard saddle bags. This gives you about 375 lbs of storage but you end up around 803 lbs wet weight for the FLSTN. This is only 108 lbs less than the Ultra.

Personally, I'd think even with 100 extra lbs of weight a bike on a touring chassis would handle better in town than a loaded down FLSTN. especially when you have it fully loaded and riding two up.

I weigh 240 lbs and my wife is close to that and I know the handling difference between 1 up and 2 up on my deluxe. It doesn't hurt my maneuverability but it does hinder braking. You might want to think about upgrading to a better set of brakes.

Weight was not really an issue for me as I'm under 200 Lbs and the wife is barely over 110 lbs. I've not put my "De-Ultra" on the scales but I supect it's in the 800 Lb range. even with the Hard bags, Lowers, Tourpak , fairing,& exhaust mods. Most of my LD stuff is one -up w/o the wife so the weight is still under the GVW.

We use the "full" configuration when we're out in the Airstream as "transportation" instead of the Truck. It's nice to have all that space then for "junk" we need on the day trips and short overnights.

The Touring Frame on the "big" bikes is no doubt much better for this job but I've had a blast doing the conversion and I still run with the "Big Boys" when out on the road. At every stop, folks are intrigued by the bike and mistake it for a Street Glide "conversion" until the look close. With the engine changes, I get decent gs mileage, good power band for touring at speed, and it actually handles very well due to the lower CG of the Deluxe platform.

Only issue I don't like is ground clearance on the pipes when two up. Have to be careful then.
