My wife would like to change the saddlebags on her 2009 Heritage softail classic,
she really likes the locking rigid saddlebags for the softail deluxe (53015-05B). Does anyone have any idea if this is do-able without major mods? Thanks for any help!
I can't say how doable that is since I don't have a deluxe. However I would make sure your wife is Ok with the reduced luggage capacity. I've looked at Harley's bags for the deluxe at a dealer and they are tiny. Especially when compared to the stock bags on a heritage. I think you'd probably be better off getting some aftermarket bags made in the deluxe style. Boss, Leatherpros, and others make that style of bag that would have a similar style but a lot more capacity. Just my two cents.
For one, the mounting studs holes are 3" wider on the Deluxe bags. So at a minimum you'd have to change the chrome fender rail mounts also. Two, you'd have to either run the bags without a lower support rail or figure out another way to rig them on on the Heritage. On the Deluxe the support attaches to the muffler support bracket.
Hopefully she already got rid of the studded seat because the two would not go well together aesthetically imo.
Depending on what her actual goal is there are other options. Locks can be put on the Heritage bags and they can be made to be almost as rigid at the Deluxe bags with a stiffener kit. I have Bossbags but there are other less expensive systems. Or she could go to hardbags.
She might also like these bags by BB Reproduction. I've seen them in person on a bike and they are small and lockable like the Deluxe bags. These are pics of them on Heritages:

I've got a friend that put those bags on his wife's Heritage with no problems. Not sure how it worked though. Look in Harley's accessory catalog and see if it's a fit. But, another option is to have the Heritage bags modified with a stiffener kit and locking mechanism. It's all available.
Be Aware -- The Lux, because with its stacked pipes the bags make for them will be shorter and leave a lot of area between Ur Heritage pipes and the bottom of the bags.
I've seen some on Heritage's in here but IMO they just don't flow with the bike..
