Default New Member/Custom Softail Build

Hey everyone. I'm Pyro and I'm new to these forums. I'm from Cincinnati and I'm currently undertaking a frame-up softail build. This will be my first bike and my buddy who works on bikes is also teaching me everything I need to know while I build it. My frame was purchased from Jireh Cycles, and it's P/N is 85-180. My next step is finding the right swingarm for it. I've been looking all over for swingarms and jireh cycles doesn't sell swingarms by themself unless sold with the frame. What i'm looking for is a swingarm that fits a 200 tire size to the "T", and has a bit of a curled spike where the bolt of the rear wheel is. It kinda has a tribal look to it and I've seen them on many scoots on the web but cannot find a retailer. I hate that my introduction comes with questions, but i'm here to learn from those who may have done this type of stuff many times. I appreciate any help or advice offered. Thanks!

Oh for sure. I plan on having progress pix throughout the entire build. The next parts in order that I'm looking for are Swingarm, Front end, then wheel & tires. I would imagine after that then the tank and fenders. I'm gonna do the powertrain last. I'm building this with my college checks that i get every 14 weeks or so, so basically in big chunks at a time. Just a heads up i'm looking for a Fatboy front end. But with the forks 2 inches over stock as my frame is actually at 34 degrees rake, but i believe it also has a two inch lift on the down pipe. I think what i'm looking for is two inch over forks atleast. :-)

Does the spike curve up or down? Does the rest of the swingarm look stock except for the curved spike as far as size?

This is gonna be awesome! Welcome Pyro, and thank you in advance for I'm sure will be a long and fun (to watch) build!

Been searching, I only find downward sweeping spiked swing arms.

The spike curves downward after the bolts for the rear wheel. The rest from what i can remember looks stock. Perhaps i can shape a quicky up in 3ds Max for a more visual approach. Also i believe because my frame matches the 86-99 EVO Big Twins, I'm going to assume the rest of the frame will probably require parts that fit those years as well?

As far as the college checks go. the school gets a check from my student loans and what is left over after books and tuition comes to me. They come every 14 weeks or so and I usually have about 1500 to tinker with. Estimating the next few checks and if wwe get a big tax refund again, I'm thinking this build should be done about the same time as the tax refund. I'm aiming the bike to be simple and as inexpensive as a softail build can be. That said i'm looking somewhere between 7k and 8k for the total build. nothing really too special. Probably mostly reused stock harley parts from those at swap meets. The big seller for me is 4 things; My first bike is a harley, I built it myself, Free and Clear of any loans, and I get the wind in my hair and the wife at my back. Other then thats it my first build and it's special to me. When i build a second bike i will take my time and perfect everything on it. This is experience for me and I'm loving it and looking forward to it, what else matters. :-)
