Default 07 FLSTC Rear Brake Sensor Removal...

Ok - so my rear brake sensor was broken - and it's stuck on the *ON* position. So how do I get the damned thing out of there?

I bought the replacement sensor - and found out it's a 17MM nut, however, if you use a open end wrench, it won't fit in the narrow opening to turn the nut, and you can't use a socket because the damned sensor is pushed up against the engine housing.

So... take out the ole HD manual... and it has *this* picture...

So do I have to remove my pipes JUST to remove this sensor?

I just did the change on my 07. The bracket that holds the switch will bend without to much effort. Bend it. Remove it. Replace it. Bend it back. You'll lose a little fluid but it didn't affect the system.

Ok - thanks for the ideas.

I was thinking about that too - and wondering if I could bend the bracket without breaking something. I talked to a HD mechanic a while ago - he said some mechanics use a modified box wrench, small enough to fit the gap, or bend the bracket a bit, then use box wrench or 17mm socket to loosen it up, then hand turn it off. He said official way is supposed to be remove the front pipe, takes 10 mins extra, but way easier to put it in and out. He said picture in manual is sans front exhaust pipe in the way.
