Default Side mounted license plate (which side?l

I am curious why everyone mounts there license plate (whether on the swing arm or the rear axle) on the left side of the bike? I don't think I have ever seen one mounted on the right, behind the pipes. Why is that?

I have a swing arm bag on my left swing arm so mounting the license plate on that side will be tough. I thought about mounting it on the other side... is that not a good idea since I have seen no one do it?

Left said is prolly just easier most times due to so many exhaust configurations out there. My left sided clears my swing arm bag easily, though it mounts on the rear axle nut, so it sits plenty far back.

Umm, I'm having it done as we speak. I will have a right side axle mount because of my swing arm back just like you mentioned. From looking at your bike in the picture I honestly don't know if the exhaust would cause problems with you on an axle mount or not. You could possibly try mounting it to the upper part of the swing arm on the right side. May have to modify it to make it look good. I have Vance and Hines street sweepers on my bike so it wasn't really an issue on my bike. The guy doing the work said he's going to send some pictures of how far along he is, if it has a decent shot of the license plate I'll post them. If not I should have the bike back in a few days and I'll send you a shot if you'd like.

OK, cool....I would love to see it.

I already bought a swing arm mount and I think it will work on the right side with no problem. I just never see any mounted to that side so I was curious if there was a specific reason as to why no one (or very few) mount it on the right.

Mine is on the right. Worked with my V&H straight shots (which extend past the axle centerline) and my current Exile shotguns. True you don't see it much, I guess that was part of the reason I decided to mount it on that side. Now it's because of the new swingarm bag, but I've had that plate mount for a few years now.

Biggest reason is because of exhaust but you can put it on either side, your choice.

I run mine on the left because of my exhaust. Just changed mine from a vertical to horizontal because the vertical is illegal in the **** state of Washington. I believ it's because the State Patrol's plate reader's don't work on a vertical. Check your state before mounting. My Bro got a $124.00 ticket (and a lot of hasseling) from the po-po, just because his plate.

Very cool, I think it will work with my BSS also since they don't go all the way back to the rear axle. What bike is that? A night train, right? Is it lowered?

Vertical mount is illegal in most states, thus the reason why stock bikes always have a horizontal mount, even the ones with stock side mount plates. Never been hassled though, so I'm not too worried about it.
