What was you bigest problem with the bigger bike? And how did you overcome it?

The dealer has offered me a test ride.

Thanks,

Take the ride. It is a little more difficult to muscle around in a parking lot than a Sporty, but you are gonna love the extra weight out on the highway and on a windy day. I went through 3 Harleys in 9 years-the latter was a Road King. I have been on a Heritage now for about 3 years and I haven't had the itch for anything else. Everytime I sit on it, it's like relaxing in a favorite chair. I don't see myself getting rid of this one.

All of the Softails are great cruisers but the Heritage has the "classic" look with the saddlebags, windshield and passing lamps.

I owned two Heritages ('92 & '95) and my wife currently owns two ('99 & '08).

Both of my wife's bikes were lowered by the dealer and that's a really great option for shorter people as it not only lowers the saddle height but the center of gravity also which makes them easier to lift off of the kickstand and for make slow turns and stops safely.

Three accessories that I would highly recommend for anyone's Heritage is the engine guard bar, the saddlebag guards, and the chrome wind deflectors.
One time dropping your bike and these guards have paid for themselves.

If you want to feel what the wind deflectors will do for your bike, drive your bike at 50-60 MPH then cross your left arm across your chest towards the right side of your body.
You will feel a reduction in the amount of wind and this is what the wind deflectors do and on a cool day this really helps protect you, plus they really look cool on your bike.

Balloo,
Take the test ride. Lot's of options available to make the Heritage more versatile than it already is. It's a solid bike, handles well and is soooo damn purty!

2AMGuy,

I read your comments about your recommended accessories for the Heritage and I agree with the engine guard and the saddlebag guard. (Mine is an 07 and my bags look pretty much like new thanks for the flat top kit) Anyway, my question is about the chrome wind deflectors. Do they primarily deflect wind away from your legs, since they are mounted lower (on the front fork)? I may consider those babies, but I just spent a fortune on new handlebars (12" Fat Mini-Apes & internal wiring plus braided SS clutch and brake cables).

Congrats on the Heritage, a big step up from the Sportster.

They do deflect some wind away from your legs but I think the biggest gain is felt in the reduction of wind coming up across my chest.
As I said earlier, at 50-60 MPH cross your left arm across your chest to your right side and that's about what you'll get with the wind deflectors.
I think the wind deflectors are $100 and they're worth it, if for nothing else the added appearance to the front of your bike.

Grats on the new Heritage. I had a XL1200C for 3 years. Put 31K miles on it and traded it for a Dyna Superglide. Traded that for a Heritage after 18 months. I should have bit the bullet and gone straight to the Heritage. Great ride and really dig the lack of vibration. Enjoy!

Yep, we did the same thing, traded in our '02 1200C Sporty with all the riding mods, Springs, shocks, windshield, handlebars, seat, etc. etc.

We took a ride last year on a wide glide and liked the ride, saw the 2012 FLSTC at the dealership this year, worked out a deal with Laidlaws in Baldwin Park, where we purchased the Sporty, they gave us the best deal of any of the local Harley dealers around, brought the bike home and we could not believe the ride home, what a difference from the Sporty.

Three days later we took it down to Bassani pipes of Anaheim and they installed their Bassani 2-1 pipes, got these for free as they where using the bike for fitment and advertising, felt the difference with these pipes, definitely more get up and GOOOO.

After two weeks of riding we took her down to Shotgun Shock and JD the owner installed a set of their Shotgun Shock air suspension shocks, he is still giving out a HD Forums member discount, $1250 installed. This is deffinatley the BEST mod to be done to our bike. We can't believe how smooth the ride is, like riding a magic carpet.

Our next set of mods are to install adjustable passenger floor boards and engine and saddle bag guards.

Yes this one is a KEEPER.

Our sig picture is the advertising picture for the pipe install.
