Default Heritage OEM Shield dimensions?

What are the measurements of a stock Windshield from a Heritage Softail Classic? I'm 6'3" and at 50 mph it feels like my head is being ripped off from buffetting. My shield, which i think is aftermarket is 17 1/2" tall from headlight opening to the top. It's 23 1/2" wide across. I dont want to buy one that's too tall and make the turbulence worse.

I've got the stock quick disconnect shield and I think it's as tall as they make. I'm thinking of cutting it down actually. There's an outfit on ebay that has replacements in all sizes for about $100.

I made my own custom height version. I bought a used "Tall" Shield that had some scratches near the top. Then I cut 2" from the top which got rid of the scratches and made for an excellent shield for me at a bit over 6'. Directions on how to measure and cut a shield are here on this forum somewhere and probably on UTube as well. But basically: Get a large sheet (bigger than the Top Half of the Windshield) of thin Cardboard. I got a huge sheet for about a dollar at a local Teachers Supply Store. Start by using Blue Masking Tape; and cover the Windshield one strip at a time with a bit of overlap on both sides of the Plexiglass. Taping the Plexiglass is actually a very important part of this process. Next, place the Cardboard against the Horizontal Chrome/Stainless Steel Strip that holds the Windshield and then Trace the outline of the Original Windshield onto the Cardboard. Now cut however much you want to lower the Windshield by, from the bottom of the Cardboard. Cutting from the bottom of the pattern is important as this will preserve the original outline of the Windshield when you are done. Place the Cardboard back against the Windshield against the Horizontal Chrome/Stainless Steel Strip that holds the Windshield and and trace the outer edge onto the Blue Tape that is covering the Plexiglass. Now the fun begins . . . use a very fine tooth Saber Saw and cut slowly, carefully and smooooothly along the line you traced. Hold the scrap as you cut so that it's increasing weight doesn't crack the remaining plexiglass as you cut. When the cut is finished sand the edge using a sanding block with #80 grit sandpaper, then #220 and finish with #400 or even finer if you like. Last, remove the Blue masking tape, wash the windshield, and you're done. The finished product will look as good, and the finished edge will actually be even better than the original.

Thanks for the info for a shorter shield, but i'm thinking i may need a taller one. My initial thought is that mine is much smaller than stock. I guess i'm trying to find out if anybody else my height has had issues. I want to tour, but cant with this shield.

Sorry I can't answer your original question about the stock height of the windshield since mine is cut down about 2 inches, but I think the stock one is about 19.5" over the headlight. HD makes 3 different sizes. If you look in a parts catalogue or call the dealer they should be able to show the differences.

I just measured the stock windshield on my 2012 and it's 17 1/2" tall from the headlight opening to the top.

That sounds like mine. Would have thought mine was much shorter than stock. I guess I'm gonna have to "try" a different height. I see Harley offers up to 23" but that may be a little much.

It has changed over the years from 'year to year'. I know my brother's '06' had a taller shield than my '09'. Your HD dealer and their accessory catalog will help a lot to tell you how tall it should be with you on the bike and what's available. I believe mine is 16 inches and the one on the '06' was 19. You can buy just the lexan sheet and use the original hardware.
