Traded a 2010 Ultra for a 2012 Heritage as arthritis and cancer induced loss of muscle and strength made humping the Ultra difficult at times. I've had the Heritage for 6 weeks now, ridden over 1700 miles, spent a lot on replacing the passenger pillion and backrest, detachable sideplates, different risers for the bars, and now I'm looking at going back to a touring bike to get the smooth ride, better ergonomics, and a backrest plus a seat that the wife likes.
I just can't get comfortable on the Heritage, and I really wanted to as the bike is, IMHO, the best looking bike Harley has, especially in the Tequila Sunrise/Orange with the WWW tires.
The master cylinder has been rebuilt - the "standard" lever to the grip syndrome - the spoke wheels have been trued by a trusted indy as HD wouldn't do it - they were within specs even though the bike vibrated at 60+ mph.
Brings to memory and old saying - "Before you give something up, make sure you have something of value to replace it".

We all be different in what fits us.. Harleys are the same, some just don't work/fit us.
Most of Ur dislikes about the Heritage is what I love about ours. (Seating, bars, general Ergo of the bike and actually for me I though the ride is as good as any.
At 6'2'' and 280 the size and weight of the touring bike wasn't an issue either.
Having ridden one UC, several RK's and my sons St-glide, I just didn't really like them any better. At Least not enough to buy one.
I felt the same about them as U do the Heritage, The ERGO's didn't fit and If did buy one I'd have to change the seat and bars to get close to the same Ergo's as I now have on our Heritage.
Like U found out as I did that the Rear end seating on the Heritage's needs changed a lot. I got the wife the Touring Seat, Touring Sissy bar Pad/ detachable, and Floorboards for her to be comfortable back there. But for Ur wife to lose the recliner backrest was a big change for her.
We can adapt to most situations but I think it would hard for most people be happy after changing from an Ultra to about any other Harley after having been content with for yrs with an UC .
I believe that's why after we have a bike that we like/love for a while and get used to it, its really hard to settle for something else.
Regardless, I hope U end up with something U really can enjoy again.
It appears to me that since 2010 you've gone from a Dyna, to a touring bike, to a bigger touring bike, to a Softail, now wanting to go back to a touring bike. It also seems that the Heritage just can't live up to your expectations no matter how much money you throw at it.
Just borrowing from your previous post, I'd suggest going back where it seems you were the most comfortable...

Perhaps you have trade-itis too, I am afflicted as well.
Biggest symptom is never being happy with what you have.
I am really working on my case though, I hope you find something that makes you happy.
I would say RK, it will be a lot easier to "hump" around and still fit you like the touring platform it is.
Nothing will be as good looking as my Heritage... but nothing rides as smooth and comfortable and carries so much stuff as my Electra. Just the way it is.
I have both. A '05 RG and 04' Heritage and they are different rides. The RC and it's TC88A shakes at low speed but smooths out the faster you go. The TC88B is opposite, smooth as silk but can buzz toward the top end. This is because of the counterbalance setup. I say it buzzes rather that vibrates because it's slightly noticeable and only through the floorboards.
Sorry to hear of your health troubles and hope you get the bike thing sorted out. I ended keeping both because of their distinctive looks and riding.
Smooth and comfortable for the long ride = Ultra. Those bikes were designed from the ground up for just that experience. The Heritage is a compromise of making a tour bike out of a cruiser. Still I think that you can make any Softail very comfortable. Look at getting a different seat or adjusting the handlebars to better fit you.
