Lowering Softail - Opinions Wanted
I bought the burnout kit from JP Cycles. Easy to install and works well. I have ridden 2up with no bottoming. I didn't measure before but I think I am about 1.5 - 2" lower. As said before no disassembly of the shocks required.Far asAnubiss saying there's no reason to lower it, I think it makes a huge difference in the look when you have the bobtail or Deuce fender.
I went from a lepera solo seat to a mustang tour style seat which was a bit thicker.. so you could imagine the bike sat a good bit higher with the mustang.. by lowering the rear end with the progressive kit, I was able to retain the same ride height that I liked so I'm glad I did it. That lower posture was the one thing I loved about the solo seat but the butt couldn't do any more 300+ mile days with it.. so now I've got the right height on a far more comfy seat.

Looks like your Deuce already has a fairly low-profile seat.. One thing I was thinking.. 6'2" height.. I'd be considering extending those forward controls before I lowered the bike anymore, but that's just from my own experience sitting on FXST's with forwards. Everyone is different though.

You can't buy any of the parts for the canister, the only reason to ever disassemble is to lower. I lowered mine with ness style kit. It's best if, you make your own press (I did) that you understand stored energy. I made sure if anything went wrong the canister, shock and spring would be contained in the press. Sorry I can't give you anymore than this.Your doing it at your own risk.
I bought the Progressive Kit about a year ago just before the Burnout kit came out. Last weekend I installed the Progressive Kit on my stock take-off shocks. I thought it was to dangerous to rig up my own press so I had the dealer press and install the kit on the take-offs and I install the modified shock myself.
Did anyone buy the Snap-on SRES24 Torque Wrench Adaptor to torque down the rear bolt? This was recommended in the service manual. If not how did you torque it down?
Did anyone measure the stock height before lowering?
Anubisss, I had to lower my bike just to reach the ground, I think I'm the shortest rider here.

Here is the press I built. I made it out of stuff I had laying around the garage in about a half-hour, so it's not pretty, but it is strong and stable. A couple things to note: the jack is bolted down securely, and the shock (which is represented by the alcohol bottle due to the fact my shocks have since been reinstalled) is secured by the two C-clamps. This was to ensure everything didn't fly apart when I squished down the shock. It's also important to note that I put a collar around the part where the threaded rod on the jack comes into contact with the shock to prevent the shock from slipping off the side of the rod as it turned.
As mentioned by a couple of others here, you are doing this at your own risk. THERE IS A LOT OF STORED ENERGY IN THE CANISTERS. In fact, it's amazing how that little wire ring actually holds that whole thing together. But if you are mechanically inclined, it's a fairly simple procedure.

Very clever, and effective. Now that I see it I understand how you did it. Like I said very clever.
I'll have to remember that one, but I think a pair of $2 muffler clampswould be work as well or better. Besides I don't have c-clamps that big.but I do have abunch of muffler clamps laying around taking up space in thegarage.

i lowered mine all the way now with burnout kit
took about a 100 mile round trip with it so far like this (better than nothing considering its the middle of winter in NJ) havent bottom out at all
going all the way down did seem to stiffen the ride up, but i dont mind
never rode 2 up yet, prolly dont plan to either
