How much oil do you currently have in the oil tank?

I check the oil in my Softails after the bike has been started and has ran couple of minutes.
With the bike standing in an upright position, the oil leve l in the tank should be at the bottom of the filler neck.

Check to see that you're at the proper level and try it again.

It was about 1/4" below the neck. Now it's about 1" low in the tank. I won't have a chance till I get back from work.

I agree same mistake with mine. I don't check the oil now until after its warmed up. I puked oil out of my fill cap after a short ride around town after adding a lil oil. Had to syphon it out and clean up my mess.

it happend with about 3500 miles on my oil and i always checked it warm and have never had to add any oil to it so I highy doubt it was from overfilling I called my local harley dealer and they thought it might be the umbrella valves stuck or broken.

Yes the plug is still attached and what really confused me is that it 3500 miles then it started doing it.
