Hi all, posted this over in the tech forum but doesn't seem anyone is answering there. My question is; do you really have to remove the rear axle to change the pads? Looks like a solid cast anchoring to the acle. Wonder if they would slide up the rotor if the pistons were compressed?
Any help will be appreciated
The MANUAL says to pry one pad away from the disc carefully, remove the pins and that pad will drop out. Install new pad. Replace pins, set the pads by pumping the pedal, pry the other pad away from the disc carefully, remove the pins and that pad will drop out. Install new pad and pins and you're all set.
I think machinistmate is correct. Looked it up in the 2007 service manual. The rear brake is one piece. you can not unbolt the caliper by itself.
I think they changed the rear caliper in 2008 (not sure)
On my 2009 bike, the rear brake is in 2 parts, the support that has the axle going through it and the caliper that can be unbolted. The caliper is held in place with 2 Torx screws.
