Newbie here! I rode a sportster back in the 70's, when first child came along I sold bike. Now kids are grown and I've got back into riding again. I need some advice about what to do here if anything.... I have a chance to get a 04 fat boy loaded for $8000.00 but needs tires with 15000 miles, or I have a chance at a 07 fat boy with HD numbered paint mostly stock other than pipes 12000.00 with 12500 miles, which would be the best buy today. Thanks, in advance for your time.
That's a tough choice but I just made a similar one. I was choosing between a 04 with plenty of add ons or a 09 with just a couple of add ons. My choice was a little easier though since they wanted 10K for the 04 that had 13,000 miles and 12800 for the 09 that had only 1,650 miles. In addition, I was figuring that i would probably be replacing alot of the add ons on the 04 that I didn't like as much as other options that were available to me. Look at the differences and see which you like better. 88 CI vs 96 CI, 150mm rear tire vs 200mm rear tire, solid rims vs bullet hole rims and the like. Bottom line is go with your gut.
If it were me, I would go with the '07. I know that I would want to make it my own, so I would end up changing out a lot of the aftermarket parts on the bike. Plus it's newer with the bigger engine.
'07 has the new 6-speed transmission, the 96" motor and the 200mm tire. But a lot of people swear by the Evo motors too. So it's really personal preference. Buy what you can afford.
I'd say ride them both before making a decision. They might both be Fatboy's but they are 2 totally different animals......04 is a TC88, 5 speed with 150 tire vs. 07 TC96, 6-speed with 200 tire.

The '04 is a TC, NOT an Evo.
I like the idea of the 96" 6 speed on the '07, but IMHO I think the '04 is a better looking bike..They ruined the Fatboy when they went to the 200 rear tire, with that shortened, bloated, out-of-proportion looking rear fender & the 17 in front.
Here's my '04 Fatboy. Look how good & sexy that rear fender & smaller tire looks. Kinda like a chick with a hot bod, VS a fatass trailer park porker!
Course, I wouldn't mind havin' the 96" & 6 speed tranny, either. Just can't get past that obese fender.
One thing about the '07 is the front wheel offset...I didn't notice it on my old '07 until someone mentioned it. Other than that, my '07 Fatboy was bulletproof.
