2013 Breakout
did anyone take a look at the crimson red w/o all of the metal flake? I rode down to my dealer as soon as I saw it. They have a crimson red on allocation, October delivery at the earliest, and I have first right of refusal on the bike.
The owner tells me a SOLD tag will go on it as soon as it comes in. If I don't like it for some reason after seeing and riding it, there's no obligation.
Never thought i would ever part with my FXSTC, but this bike geometry in the red just blows me away.
I always liked the Rocker except for the seat toward the back of the bike-seemed unfinished to me. Looks to me like they took the best from the deuce and the rocker and combined them, and put a 110 lump right in the middle.-112lb. ft. of torque? C'mon, that's seriously hauling the mail from a cruiser standpoint.
My only bone of contention on the bike are the Dunlops. Neither Avon nor Metz makes a 130 front yet.....Hopefully as the delivery time approaches they will have one.
I'm pretty sure I have to have this, BUT it's going to have to be a kick-a** ride. I have my FXSTC exactly like I want it-but oh this bike haunts my dreams..

My Lo is cosmetically done (everything I want so far), all that's left is the engine and clutch upgrades, and I'm still under $22k (i like to keep a record of everything I've purchased, except for gas of course).. and yeah, it helps when you do all the labor yourself, and most of the fabrication for odds-and-ends yourself too..

As far as the Breakout goes, it seems like HD is reading this forum and putting what they see in to one big cluster F of a bike.. like "Hey, some of these guys really like Chrome with the HD heavy Breather.. and some of them really like those RSD and Heartland chopped fender look..so lets put that on there.. and they seem to miss the old Deuce, so we'll incorporate that, but we still have a bunch of 240's laying around from the Rocker, so we'll use that too"

Stunning bike, and a nice evolution of the Deuce and the Rocker C.
Blingy bikes are fun. They seem to get a lot more attention, and a good part of what I enjoy in a bike is sharing the enjoyment..... other people enjoying it too.

I like CVO's along with the other bikes. But I have had both and speak from experience that by the time I was done with my Fatboy I was a little ahead in the price range than my CVO springer that I am doing some work on now. I did get my springer used and only paid 22K... but my fatboy was 19k out the door and the list went on well into the 30's. I do all my own work, but buy high end quality on my bike. Comparable to the CVO's quality material or better.
Sorry to hijack thread... I really dig that breakout. some cool innovative stuff.
Also, I am not disrespecting anyones bike. I am a true bike lover and appreciate all kinds of stuff and different looks (harley mostly). I just thought it was a bit far stretched to say that you can do your own CVO for 22K. Get what makes you happy for that amount...yes. Not the same league of build tho imo.
So to think who has more brains than money... well I guess each can figure out their own scenario and make a decision. I am easily making out ahead on this go around than last. I can talk specifics on prices and I have been wrenching on my bikes for a long time so we can talk that too.
Happy riding to either of the mindsets on here.

you should have fun if you chose to get it. Good luck.
The subject of whether or not they are worth it is highly debated. The thing is you said you had 22k in it kind of like if it was comparable. while you do have some stuff done to it... I would say two things. A) your bike is already at 22k in and you still have a factory paint job, factory wheels rotors, and a much smaller cubic engine. Now try to upgrade those to a custom paint job, wheels, rotors, calipers, and upgrade your motor to 110 ci and you are already getting well past the CVO price range.

There are various models, features, price points for various market sectors. Harley is no different from car companies in that regard. You have sportsters, softails, dynas, touring and vrods and within each family several choices. The CVOs are just another option trying to reach a different market sector. For example, I don't believe the typical CVO buyer is the same as the Sportster buyer or the Fatboy Lo buyer. My guess is the demographics are quite different. I would also guess that most CVO buyers have had many Harleys before buying a CVO. I know I am on my 7th Harley and I came real close to buying a CVO this time. The only thing that stopped me was I could not find the one I wanted in the color I wanted that was reasonably close.
Plus, the Breakout is actually a bargain. There is no way you could outfit a standard production Softail(i.e. a Custom or Deuce based on the MSRP from when they were produced) from the HD accessories catalog like the Breakout for $26.5k.
I can't speak to the intelligence of your buddy, but for me, I will be adding fuel management to get the freaking EPA-mandated factory lean condition removed, and upgraded exhaust-that's it.

Anyone thinking an Outbreak CVO won't stand out, compared to various people's personal hideous stylistic abortions, might be a little delusional. Harley knows pretty well what they're doing in the marketing area. I'm in the "fine arts" area, and I can't fault them very much there either.
Ya gots to figure out, are people paying attention to your scoot because they think it's amusing or ugly, or because they like it. LOL
CVO and C models rarely show up, at least in my region, so nothing to worry about regarding being "just one of many".
Spend 10 to 30 grand to do something admirably different on a more ordinary scoot, or just cut to the chase and drop an extra 10 on the new Harley, and also get better resale and a factory warranty.
Edit:
I just spent two days on a stock '11 or '12 street glide, (didn't check the year) so pipes are probably a must, and there's some other stuff going on too. All things considered, it was a little like being neutered. LOL
Even the friggin' wife felt like she had lost her joy on that neutered rubbered thing! (our softail is about all she's ever driven down the road for a good distance)
A salute to B engine softails! Gawd, I was so happy when I got back on that thing!
