Got a question seems like the bike is getting harder to shift the higher the gears, the clutch lever is fine shifts down great, shifts good on lower gears, sometimes shifts fine on the uppers but seems to be getting more frequent. Its like I go to shift and the shift lever doesnt move is solid, but it still manages to chnage gear. I changed out the tranny fluid last night still the same this morning. Other than that the bike runs great. Its a 2008 deluxe...any ideas, probably gonna take it to dealer as I have a trip coming up soon, don't want any issues
Have U ever oiled the shift lever shaft linkage.
Mine and others in here have had the sticky shift problem and this is the first thing to do before U do anything else.
I will try that tonight...as stated in the thread you posted I had the problem of down shifting and the lever not springing back..the dealer lubed it and it was fine..but this is a different issue from that
Rather than just oiling things.
Take it apart, clean it out and use a thin film of a light grease.
The white spray can stuff (can't remember the name right now) works well and lasts a lot longer than plain oil.
The other major culprit can sometimes be the crappy connectors Harley put on the ends of the shift rod.
Best thing to do with them is junk the rod and get one that has decent Hyme ends on it.
Harley makes a decent polished stainless steel one with Hyme ends on it for less than most of the aftermarket ones go for.
