Default V&H Fuelpac Update

I did many hrs of research on tuners to incl price, ease of installation or removal, flexability, reliability, useabilty etc. I decided to go with the Fuelpac mostly due to ease of installation and price. I was concerned by several posts I read on their not working on certain models and some on reliability. I was not concerned about their limitations on Stage II, cams etc as I am not going there in the future. Bottom line today is: Install incl programing took less then 90 mins. Online codes avail for setting the 23 modes were avail for N/C on line. After install, it started well and ran a little ragged. I went for a ride and came to a stop, let out clutch and engine shut off. I was worried I may have opened up Pandora's box. I rode it around the block several times to stay close to home in case it crapped out. Each time I went around the block it started to run better with each lap. I ventured out in the country and road several miles and pulled to the side and cycled ignition off and restarted and road it again. I did this several times for 30 miles to "learn" the ECM. Throughout the 30 mile ride, the bike ran better and stronger and cooler. I went home home, picked up the wife and headed out for the afternoon poke'n around the Smoky's, after 100+ miles, motor ran perfect, cooler and with stronger gear pull at lower rpm. Exhaust note different in a good way. Mpg improved 2mpg. Very satisfied with this tuner. It does what it advertised to do.

Get back to us in 6 months when decel pop is driving you nuts, surging at low speed is irritating you and your plugs are fouled monthly.
I already rode that train.

I had the same good experience with my FP. I also have the XiED installed. Runs cooler and no decel popping at all. Had mine in for service 2 weeks ago and plugs looked very good.

After reading many reviews on the Fuelpak, I did notice a pattern that the negative reviews were most often from users from a year ago or more and not from the most recent users of the Fuelpak. I would assume V&H have done some updates over the past year. I will update the OP as time goes on with current long term results (ie) reliabiilty, perf etc. I am also running XIED's.

I wasn't aware that the Fuelpak had "learning" capabilities. Could you go into more detail on that? For instance, what sensors does it use for feedback?

Default Fuelpac learning capabilities

Hi,
I would have thought that the previous poster was refering to the learning capeabilities of the standard ECU not the fuelpac. As far as i am aware the fuelpac fools the ecu into making the mixture richer or leaner at certain points through the rev cycle however because the ecu works on a closed loop control system once normal riding then it uses the feedback from the various sensors particularly the O2 oxygen sensors to tweak the mixture to produce optimum fuelling around the fuelpac presets.

I've had my FuelPak for two years now and it works great. No decel popping and I can pull 6th gear at 50MPH with no pinging or knock. I'm totally satisfied with mine.

Exactly! The bike's ECU is the component that "learns". The FuelPak riches the mixture in the open loop cycle, and the XiEDs richen the mixture in the closed loop cycle where the ECU is programmed to run lean from the factory. Most normal riding is probably done in the closed loop area. The ECU adapts to this new input and refines its control over the first 100 miles or less after the FP, air cleaner, pipes, or XiED is installed. They recommend not doing everything at once to allow the ECU to adjust. AC one week, pipes the next....something like that.

Ive had fuel paks on two of my bikes, no issues with either. I like the decel pop, if you dont set mode 23 lower. You can also check the website for updates.
