Interesting project ...

Here's a concept ... flip the swingarm upside down and use the shock mount to mount to the Softail frame shock mounts ...

If you go to the other end of the wiring, there should be AMP or Deutsche-type plugs that you can disassemble ... take a eyeglass screwdriver, or stiff wire and push in the tiny holes at the end of the connector and pull the wire out of the connector ... either get a Service Manual that has the wiring diagrams (color codes are on all the diagrams) or take (CLEAR) photos of the connectors before you start taking them apart ... so you can reassemble them as they came apart ...

Good luck with the project ...

Thanx for the idea.

The photo idea is good too. I had thought of pulling the wires out of the plugs but figured it would a nightmare trying to get them back in the proper order. It probably will be, but photos will be pretty helpful.

When I pulled my bars and changed them out I was able to get those plugs through the holes in the bars. Took a little wiggling, pulling and some patience, but I got it done by pulling one control at a time, starting with the smaller plug first. But, since I don't have any experience with the older bikes, there may be a chance that the older plugs are larger.

Yep, photos of the plugs and wires is the way to go. Once you get the hang of how they come apart and go back together, it goes pretty fast. This is a WAY cool project. I can't wait to see what you end up with. I picture you in a lab coat working only when it's dark outside. Kinda mad scientist style.

Geez, I am glad everybody is stoked about this project. I was expecting a bunch of flack.

I am sorta in limbo right now. Waiting for the front end. When the front end gets in I will have the stem swapped out and get that bolted on. I was getting a little bummed because at every turn I was runnin into more issues. When I built the other two bikes, they went together a little quicker. If I ran into a problem or two they werent that big a deal to get around. But then again I knew this project would be pretty crazy because the planned mods were so radical and the mixing of the jap parts with the american etc.

I guess if it were easy every little girl would do it!!!

Well, even if it turns into a train wreck you guys will at least be entertained watchin it happen!!

So I bolted the gixxer rear end back onto the CB. I hate havin two bikes ripped apart in the garage!!! I mocked up the CBRR rear end on the softail. Do ya think that peice of twine will hold up at highway speeds?????

Hopefully will have some real progress photos next week. Stay tuned.

Great project. Have you got any motor work planned?

Motor work will probably be next year. The bike was super clean and a strong runner when I tore it down.

The main goal right now is just to get a roller together.

If the string was red, I think you'd have a better chance at speed and in the turns. This is a pretty cool thing. Been watching from the peanut gallery, so I thought I'd chime in.

offsetting the trans and primary is really not a big deal, the primary is already taken off, it is just a mater of a trans offset mount, a primary spacer, and a extended shaft slipped on the crankshaft compensator . they come in kits in every size from 1/4" to a couple inches. i always had dreams of getting an older sportbike roller when they still had a steel frame, then chopping and welding it to a Harley frame middle/craddle. will be nice to see when it is together..
